KBO picks and predictions

Friday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

Doosan Bears ML (-178) vs NC Dinos

You might have thought the Doosan Bears were involved in a football game on Thursday morning as they completely crushed the Hanwha Eagles, beating them 24-3. This win snapped their 3-game losing streak and moves them back to 22-22-1 on the season. They are still in just 7th place, so opening a series with the NC Dinos should only help them string together some wins and get back into the playoff picture. To do that, the Bears will start Chooi Won-Joon on Friday morning. He is 3-3 on the season and has an ERA of 2.54. In 9 starts this season, he has allowed 14 earned runs over 49.2 innings.

The NC Dinos fell to the KT Wiz on Thursday, losing by a score of 2-1. It was a valiant effort, but their dreadful season continues. The Dinos are now 15-32 on the season and still sit last in the league standings. The Dinos will counter Kim Si-Hoon, who is 1-1 on the season and has an ERA of 4.02. In 14 appearances (5 starts), he has allowed 14 earned runs over 31.1 innings.

It is hard not to back the Bears after their offensive showing on Thursday against an equally worse team as the Dinos. That should not change on Friday and with a much better starting pitcher taking the mound, backing the Bears will be the play.

SSG Landers ML (-128) vs Kia Tigers

The SSG Landers won on Thursday, beating the Lotte Giants by a score of 6-5. This was their 4th win in a row and they now sit 6.0 games ahead of the 2nd placed LG Twins. The SSG Landers will start Lee Tae-Yang on Friday morning, who is 3-1 and has an ERA of 2.56. In 11 appearances this season (5 starts), he has allowed 11 earned runs over 38.2 innings.

The Kia Tigers also won their game on Thursday, beating the Samsung Lions by a score of 9-7. The Tigers have now won 4 games in a row and are 26-20 on the season. They have also moved up to 3rd place in the standings. The Tigers will counter with Im Gi-Yeong, who is 0-2 on the season and has an ERA of 4.78. In 5 starts this season, he has allowed 14 earned runs over 26.1 innings.

Both the Tigers and the SSG Landers are having great weeks, but the SSG Landers have a clear edge on the mound. Because the Tigers’ starter has been inconsistent this season, backing the SSG Landers will be the play.

Kiwoom Heroes vs Lotte Giants ML (-172)

The Kiwoom Heroes cruised to a win on Thursday, beating the LG Twins by a score of 12-5. The Heroes have now won 3 games in a row and are 27-20 on the season. Kiwoom is also now up to 2nd place in the league standings. The Heroes will start Tyler Eppler on Friday, who is 3-2 and has an ERA of 3.20. In 9 starts this season, he has allowed 18 earned runs over 50.2 innings,

The Lotte Giants played a tight game with the SSG Landers on Thursday, but ultimately fell by a score of 6-5. The Giants have now lost 3 games in a row and have fallen to 7th place in the standings. The Giants will counter with Park Se-Woong, who is 5-2 and has an ERA of 2.75. In 9 starts this season, he has allowed 20 earned runs over 55.2 innings.

Se-Woong has struggled recently, but still is the better pitcher in this matchup. The Giants may have lost 3 games in a row, but because of their starting pitching advantage, backing to snap their losing streak will be the play.
