KBO picks and predictions

Saturday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

Samsung Lions ML (-150) vs Kia Tigers

The Samsung Lions lost their game on Friday morning to the Kia Tigers 5-3. The Lions have now lost 2 games in a row and are currently in 6th place in the league standings. They will start David Buchanan, who is 5-3 on the season and has an ERA of 2.36. In 13 starts this season, he has allowed 22 earned over 84.0 innings.

With the win on Friday, the Tigers are now 34-28-1 on the season. They have won 2 games in a row and are in 4th place in the league standings. They will counter with Han Seung-Hyuk, who is 2-1 and has an ERA of 5.07. In 10 starts he has allowed 28 earned runs over 49.2 innings.

The Lions have a big edge on the mound in this game with Buchanan, so for that reason, backing the Lions will be the play to snap their losing streak.

Hanwha Eagles vs NC Dinos – Over 8.5 runs (-140)

The total stayed well under on Friday, and even though Drew Rucinski has been lights out for most of the season, there is still reason to believe runs come be scored in bunches on Saturday morning. Nam Ji-Min has allowed at least 3 runs in 6 of his 9 starts this season. Not only that, but has also allowed at least 8 runs in 2 of his last 3 starts. In 2 starts against the Dinos he has allowed 12 runs (11 earned) over just 8.2 innings, so while the Dinos’ offense is not good this is a pitcher they should be able to have plenty of success against.

As for Rucinski, he has allowed more than 3 runs in just 3 starts. A couple of those starts included unearned runs as well, so there is the issue of trusting his defense if wanting to back the under. In 2 outings against the Eagles, he has allowed 5 runs (4 earned) over 13.0 innings, but his most recent start against them saw him allow 4 earned runs over 6.0 innings. The Eagles’ offense is nothing special, but they have had success against Rucinski this season and should be able to do enough to help push this total over after Friday’s game where the bats did nothing. For that reason, backing the over will be the play.

SSG Landers -2.5 (-108) vs Lotte Giants

The SSG Landers won on Friday against the Lotte Giants, beating them by a score of 6-2. They have now won 2 games in a row and are 41-22-3 on the season. The SSG Landers will be starting start Kim Kwang-Hyun on Saturday morning, who is 6-1 and has an ERA of 1.39. In 11 starts he has allowed 11 earned runs over 71.0 innings.

With the loss on Friday, the Lotte Giants are now 28-33-2 and remain in 8th place in the league standings. They will counter with Lee In-Bok, who is 5-6 on the season and has an ERA of 3.99. In 13 appearances this year (11 starts) he has allowed 29 earned runs over 65.1 innings.

The SSG Landers have outscored their opponents 12-2 during their 2-game winning streak and that should not change with such a huge talent gap in the starting pitching. For that reason, backing the SSG Landers to win by multiple runs will be the play.

Extra KBO picks and predictions for Saturday, June 18

KT Wiz ML (-106) vs Doosan Bears

After a win on Friday, the KT Wiz are now just 1 game behind .500 for the season. They will start Robert Stock on Saturday morning, who is 6-4 with an ERA of 3.24. He will be opposed by Odrisamer Despaigne, who is 3-6 with an ERA of 4.24. Stock has been more consistent this season and has an ERA of 1.64 against the Bears, so backing the KT Wiz will be the play.

LG Twins vs Kiwoom Heroes ML (+116)

Neither side will be starting a great pitcher on Saturday, but Im Chan-Kyu for the LG Twins is 1-1 against the Kiwoom Heroes and has an ERA of 8.64 against them. That is enough to fade the Twins and back the Heroes to win this game.
