KBO picks and predictions

Saturday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

Samsung Lions ML (+100) over Doosan Bears

The Doosan Bears suffered a loss of Friday morning, losing to the Samsung Lions by a score of 8-5. They have now lost 4 games in a row and are now 24-27-1 on the season. The loss puts the Bears in 6th place and 1 game behind the Lions for 5th place. The Bears will start Gwak Been on Saturday morning, who is 2-5 on the season and has an ERA of 3.47. In 9 starts this season, he has allowed 18 earned runs over 46.2 innings.

With the win on Friday, the Samsung Lions are now 26-27 on the season and are up to 5th place in the league standings. They will counter with Hwang Dong-Jae, who is 1-0 on the season and has an ERA of 3.65. In 8 appearances this season (7 starts), he has allowed 15 earned runs over 37.0 innings.

This pitching matchup is fairly even, but the recent struggles the Bears have had are concerning. Their bullpen has let them down several games in a row, so backing the Lions to get back to .500 on the season will be the play.

SSG Landers ML (-102) over LG Twins

The SSG Landers lost to the LG Twins 7-1 on Friday morning. They were unable to generate any offense and have now lost 2 games in a row. The SSG Landers are still 4.0 games ahead of the Kiwoom Heroes for 1st place in the KBO standings. They will start Oh Won-Seok on Saturday morning, who is 3-3 on the season and has an ERA of 4.45. In 10 starts this season, he has allowed 27 earned runs over 54.2 innings.

With the win on Friday, the Twins are now 30-23-1 on the season and have won 2 games in a row. They have won 2 games in a row and are up to 3rd place in the league. They will counter with Kim Yun-Sik, who is 1-3 on the season and has an ERA of 5.10. In 7 starts this season, he has allowed 17 earned runs over 30.0 innings.

The recent lack of offense from the SSG Landers is a concern and their pitcher on Saturday is not great. However, the starting pitcher for the Twins has been even more inconsistent, therefore backing the SSG Landers to get back into the win column will be the play.

Kiwoom Heroes vs Hanwha Eagles – Over 8.5 runs (-138)

Given Friday’s result, and given Saturday’s pitching matchup, more runs should be expected here on Saturday. Jeong Chan-Heon has allowed at least 3 earned runs or more in 4 starts this season. He also has allowed 7 earned runs over his last 2 starts (7.0 innings), so it is fair to say he is struggling.

On the other side, Kim Min-Woo has allowed at least 3 earned runs or more in 6 of his 11 starts and at least 4 earned runs or more in 5 of these 6 starts. He also has 2 starts where he allowed 8 earned runs or more. The Eagles might not score anywhere close to 14 runs again on Saturday, but they should be able to have some success against Chan-Heon, while the Heroes should have no issues scoring against Min-Woo. For that reason, look for both of the starters struggles to continue and back the over.
