KBO picks and predictions

Saturday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

Samsung Lions vs Kiwoom Heroes – Under 6.5 runs (+108)

The total might be the better play in this matchup because even though the Lions are in the midst of a ridiculous losing streak, they still have one of their top pitchers on the mound. David Buchanan has had a few rough starts recently, but has still overall been solid for most of the season. In 2 starts against the Heroes, he has allowed just 2 earned runs over 13.0 innings as well, so he should fare well against them here on Saturday.

Eric Jokisch has been just as solid, if not better this season. In his last 6 starts, he has allowed a total of 6 earned runs over 35.1 innings. In 2 starts against the Lions, he has allowed 3 earned runs over 12.2 innings. The Lions’ offense has not been scoring much during their losing streak and with Buchanan on the mound, they should be able to limit the Heroes’ offense as well. For that reason, backing the under will be the play.

Lotte Giants ML (+136) over Kia Tigers

The Kia Tigers were able to win on Friday morning, beating the Lotte Giants by a score of 5-2. They are now 43-40-1 on the season and are in 5th place in the league standings. The Tigers will start Yang Hyeon-Jong on Tuesday morning, who is 8-4 on the season and has an ERA of 2.94. In 18 starts this season, he has allowed 35 earned runs over 106.0 innings.

With the loss on Friday, the Giants are now 38-45-3 on the season. They are currently in 6th place in the league standings. The Giants will counter with Park Se-Woong, who is 6-5 on the season and has an ERA of 3.39. In 16 starts this season, he has allowed 37 earned runs over 98.1 innings.

Hyeon-Jong has been slightly better this season, but Se-Woong has been better recently. He also has been better against the Tigers compared to Hyeon-Jong against the Giants. For that reason, backing the Giants will be the play.

SSG Landers -2.5 (-104) over Doosan Bears

The SSG Landers used the lone run of the game on Friday morning to beat the Doosan Bears by a score of 1-0 in extra innings. They are now 58-26-3 on the season and remain in first place in the league standings. The SSG Landers will start Wilmer Font, who is 11-4 on the season and has an ERA of 1.96. In 18 starts this season, he has allowed 27 earned runs over 124.0 innings.

With the loss on Friday, the Bears are now 36-47-2 on the season. They are currently in 7th place in the league standings. The Bears will counter with Lee Young-Ha, who is 6-5 on the season and has an ERA of 4.25. In 17 starts this season, he has allowed 42 earned runs over 89.0 innings.

The SSG Landers have a huge advantage on the mound, as Font has been dominant for majority of the season. He has struggled a bit against the Bears, but that should not make fading him an option for Saturday. Therefore, backing the SSG Landers will be the play.

Bonus KBO picks and predictions for Saturday, July 23

KT Wiz -2.5 (+106) over Hanwha Eagles

The Hanwha Eagles put in a great effort on Friday as they shut out the KT Wiz by a score of 8-0. Saturday will likely be a much tougher game as they face Ko Young-Pyo, who has an ERA of 2.90. Because he has been solid all season, backing the KT Wiz to bounce back with a win will be the play.

NC Dinos +1.5 (-116) over LG Twins

The NC Dinos managed to win on Friday morning, beating the LG Twins by a score of 5-4. Neither starter in this game is great, but Lee Yong-Jun has an ERA of 1.80 against the Twins, while Kim Yun-Sik has an ERA of 108.00 against the Dinos. For that reason, backing the Dinos on the run line looks to be worth a play.
