KBO picks and predictions

Saturday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

Hanwha Eagles vs SSG Landers -2.5 (+108)

Not much surprise here as the Hanwha Eagles were crushed on Friday morning, losing to the SSG Landers by a score of 9-2. The Eagles are now 22-37 on the season and have lost 2 games in a row. With their loss on Friday, they have now moved into last place in the league standings, 0.5 games behind the NC Dinos. The Eagles will start Kim Min-Woo on Saturday morning, who is 3-5 on the season and has an ERA of 5.90. In 12 starts this season, he has allowed 40 earned runs over 61.0 innings.

With the win on Friday, the SSG Landers are now 37-20-3 on the season. They snapped their brief losing streak and maintain their 2.5 game lead at the top of the standings. They will counter with Wilmer Font, who is 7-4 on the season and has an ERA of 2.03. In 12 starts this season, he has allowed 18 earned runs over 80.0 innings.

There is a huge gap between these starting pitchers, not to mention the fact that the SSG Landers are the best team in the league and the Eagles are the worst team. For that reason, backing the SSG Landers will be the play.

KT Wiz ML (-170) vs Lotte Giants

The KT Wiz beat the Lotte Giants on Friday morning by a score of 9-4. They are now 27-30-2 on the season and have won 2 games in a row. The KT Wiz are still in 7th place in the league standings, but just 0.5 game behind 5th place. They will start Ko Young-Pyo on Saturday morning, who is 3-5 on the season and has an ERA of 2.80. In 11 starts this season, he has allowed 23 earned runs over 74.0 innings.

With the loss on Friday, the Giants are now 25-31-2. They remain in 8th place in the league standings. The Giants will counter with Na Gyun-An, who is 1-1 on the season and has an ERA of 3.40. In 15 appearances (3 starts) this season, he has allowed 15 earned runs over 39.2 innings.

The gap between these pitchers is not massive, but Young-Pyo has been more consistent and has much more starting experience. For that reason, backing the KT Wiz will be the play.

Kiwoom Heroes vs Kia Tigers – Under 7.5 runs (+102)

The total looks to be the better play on Friday, given that both starters have ERAs below 2.50. An Woo-Jin is coming off one of his best starts of the season, allowing just 2 runs (1 earned) over 8.0 innings against the Samsung Lions. He has just 2 starts this season where he allowed 4 runs or more and in 1 of those starts, he was hit with 2 unearned runs.

On the other side, Yang Hyeon-Jong has just 3 starts where he has allowed 4 or more runs, but in several of those starts, he was hit with a few unearned runs as well. The Tigers’ offense is currently the best team in the league in terms of total runs, while the Heroes are 5th in the same category. However, both starters have been strong enough this season to believe they will both limit the offenses here, which will in turn lead to a lower scoring game and make the under worth a play.

Extra KBO picks and predictions for Saturday, June 11

Doosan Bears vs LG Twins – Over 9.5 runs (+102)

Friday’s game saw 17 total runs scored and with 2 struggling starting pitchers, more runs should be expected on Saturday. Both Choi Seung-Yong (Doosan Bears) and Kim Yun-Sik (LG Twins) have ERAs over 4.60, so backing the over is worth a small play.

NC Dinos +1.5 (-200) vs Samsung Lions

It may be hard to say this, but the NC Dinos are the hottest team in the KBO right now, having won 3 games in a row. Their starter on Saturday, Shin Min-Hyeok has below average numbers on the season, but has allowed 3 earned over his last 19.0 innings (3 starts), therefore backing the Dinos to keep this game close will be the play.
