KBO picks and predictions

Sunday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

LG Twins ML (-136) over KT Wiz

The KT Wiz lost 8-7 in extra innings on Saturday morning to the LG Twins. They are now 49-41-2 on the season, and remain in 4th place in the league standing. The KT Wiz will start Odrisamer Despaigne, who is 5-8 on the season and has an ERA of 4.47. In 19 starts he has allowed 53 earned runs over 106.2 innings.

With the win on Saturday, the Twins are now 55-36-1. The Twins still sit in 3rd place in the league standings. They will counter with Adam Plutko, who is 10-4 and has an ERA of 2.76. In 19 startshe has allowed 35 earned runs over 114.0 innings.

The loss for the KT Wiz on Saturday was heartbreaking after coming all the way back in the 9th inning. Now on Sunday they have a major disadvantage on the mound, so fading them and backing the Twins will be the play.

Hanwha Eagles +1.5 (-104) over Doosan Bears

The Hanwha Eagles smashed the Doosan Bears by a score of 11-1 on Saturday morning. They are now 28-63-2 this year but are still in last place in the league standings by a wide margin. The Eagles will start Jang Min-Je, who is 4-4 on the season and has an ERA of 3.67. In 21 appearances this season (15 starts) he has allowed 31 earned runs over 76.0 innings.

With the loss on Saturday, the Bears are now 40-49-2. They are still in 6th place in the league standings. The Bears will counter with Choi Won-Joon, who is 6-7 and has an ERA of 3.29. In 18 starts he has allowed 37 earned runs over 101.1 innings.

Both pitchers have been average this season, but Min-Je has actually been more consistent recently compared to Won-Joon. For that reason backing the Eagles to keep this game close will be the play.

Kiwoom Heroes ML (-130) over NC Dinos

The Kiwoom Heroes tied the NC Dinos 3-3 on Saturday morning. The Heroes are now 57-36-2 and still remain in 2nd place in the league standings. They will start Han Hyun-Hee , who is 4-2 on the season and has an ERA of 4.63. In 13 appearances (8 starts) he has allowed 24 earned runs over 46.2 innings.

With the tie-on Saturday, the Dinos are now 37-51-3. They remain in 8th place in the league standings and are 1 game ahead of the Samsung Lions for 9th place. The Dinos will counter with Shin Min-Hyeok, who is 3-5 in 2022 and has an ERA of 4.23. In 15 he has allowed 37 earned runs over 78.2 innings.

Saturday was a stalemate, and even though both starters have been shaky this season, Hyun-Hee has a much better track record against the Dinos compared to Min-Hyeok against the Heroes. For that reason, backing the Heroes will be the play.

Bonus KBO picks and predictions for Sunday, July 31

Lotte Giants vs Samsung Lions – Under 9.5 runs (-116)

The Lotte Giants will start Lee Min-Seok on Sunday, who will make his KBO debut. The Samsung Lions will counter with Choi Ha-Neul, who has an ERA of 4.00. This will actually be his first start of the season as he has only been a relief pitcher so far. Despite there being a ton of runs scored on Saturday, backing the under looks to be the better play because the Lions have not seen Min-Seok pitch and the ERA for Ha-Neul is misleading because he has very few innings.

SSG Landers vs Kia Tigers – Under 9.5 runs (-108)

The SSG Landers will start Park Jong-Hun, who will make his KBO debut this season. The Kia Tigers will counter with Im Gi-Yeong, who has an ERA of 4.18. He does have an ERA of 2.63 against the SSG Landers, so at the very least, he should be able to limit their offense, which is why backing an under looks to be worth a small play.
