KBO picks and predictions

Sunday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

SSG Landers vs Doosan Bears – Under 8.5 runs (-116)

Despite the fact that Gwak Been has an ERA above 4.00, looking at an under could be the better play for Sunday morning. Been has allowed 4 or more runs in 5 starts this season. However, in his last 2 starts he has allowed just 2 runs (1 earned), over 9.0 innings. In 4 starts against the SSG Landers, he has allowed 8 earned runs over 20.0 innings. The only reason this stat line is not better is because he last just 2.0 innings against the SSG Landers in his most recent start against them, while still only allowing 1 earned run.

On the other side, Shawn Morinando has allowed 4 or more runs just once in 2022. That only happened because of poor defense behind him as he was hit with 2 unearned runs. Other than that, he has put together 3 solid outings and should not have much trouble slowing down a weak Bears’ offense. Because both starters are in good form, backing the under will be the play for Sunday morning.

Samsung Lions vs KT Wiz – Over 8.5 runs (-134)

The total looks to be the better play with how much both starters have been struggling. Bae Je-Seong has allowed 4 or more runs in 7 starts, which includes his last 3 starts in a row. During this stretch, he has allowed 18 earned runs over 12.2 innings. In 3 starts against the Lions he has allowed 8 earned runs over 17.0, so he has even struggled against a weak offense like Samsung.

On the other side, Baek Jung-Hyun has allowed 4 or more runs in 7 starts. In his last 3 starts he has allowed 10 earned runs over 13.1 innings. In 2 starts against the KT Wiz, Jung-Hyun has allowed 6 earned runs over 8.0 innings — further showing his struggles against just about every team he faces. With both starters having a ton of rough outings recently, backing the over will be the play for Sunday morning.

Kiwoom Heroes vs Hanwha Eagles – Under 8.5 runs (+102)

The total looks to be the better play based on the recent form of Pena and the success that Chan-Heon has had against the Eagles. Felix Pena has allowed 4 or more runs in just 1 start. In 5 of his 6 starts he has allowed 2 earned runs or less, which includes his last 3 starts in a row. During this stretch, he has allowed 5 earned runs over 17.0 innings.

On the other side, Jeong Chan-Heon has allowed 4 or more runs in 4 starts. In 2 starts against the Eagles he has allowed 3 earned runs over 11.1 innings. Because both starters are coming into this game in decent form and because the Eagles’ offense is already near the bottom of the league in total runs, backing the under will be the play.

Extra KBO picks and predictions for Sunday, August 14

NC Dinos ML (+116) over LG Twins

The LG Twins and NC Dinos had their game canceled on Saturday morning due to rain and will hope for better weather on Sunday. The Twins will start Im Chan-Kyu, who has an ERA of 4.68, while the Dinos will counter with Kim Tae-Gyeong, who has an ERA of 3.44. Tae-Gyeong does not have much starting experience this season but has been solid in the games he has started. Meanwhile, Chan-Kyu has been inconsistent for most of the season. For that reason, backing the Dinos looks to be worth a small play.

Kia Tigers ML (-178) over Lotte Giants

The Kia Tigers shut out the Lotte Giants 9-0 on Saturday morning and look to have the advantage again on Sunday. They will start Sean Nolin, who has an ERA of 3.08, while the Giants will start Seo Jun-Woo, who has an ERA of 5.72. For that reason, backing the Tigers looks to be worth a play.
