KBO picks and predictions

Sunday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

Kia Tigers ML (-102) vs Kiwoom Heroes

The Kiwoom Heroes got back into the win column on Saturday, beating the Kia Tigers by a score of 3-1. The Heroes are now 11-8 on the season and have moved into a tie for 3rd place in the standings. On Sunday, the Heroes will start Han Hyun-Hee, who will be making his 2022 season debut. In 2021, Hyun-Hee made 15 starts, posting a record of 6-2 and he had an ERA of 3.89. In 1 start against the Tigers, he allowed 2 earned runs in 5.1 innings.

The loss on Saturday drops the Kia Tigers to 8-10 on the season and right now they just cannot seem to string many wins together. They are currently 6th in the standings and will need a bounce back win to get closer to .500 on the year. The Tigers will counter with Han Seung-Hyuk, who has yet to record a decision this season. In 2 starts, Seung-Hyuk has allowed just 2 earned runs in 10.2 innings and has an ERA of 1.69.

Having not started a game this season could give Hyun-Hee a small advantage, however; Seung-Hyuk has been more than solid so far this season. Because Seung-Hyuk has had a couple good starts, look for the Tigers to get back in the win column on Sunday.

LG Twins vs Doosan Bears ML (-122)

The Doosan Bears were able to get back in the win column on Saturday, beating the LG Twins 4-2. The Bears ae now 11-7 on the season and have moved into 2nd place in the standings. Doosan will be scheduled to start Gwak Been on Sunday, who is 1-1 on the season and has an ERA of 1.80. In 3 starts, Been has allowed 3 earned runs over 15.0 innings.

With the loss on Saturday, the Twins are now 11-8 on the season and are tied for 3rd place in the standings. Sunday may be a tough spot for them, considering they are expected to start Im Chan-Kyu. He is 1-1 on the season, but has an ERA of 7.15. In 2 starts this season, Chan-Kyu has allowed 9 earned runs in 11.1 innings.

The struggles from Chan-Kyu are hard to ignore, while Been has been nearly perfect in his first 2 starts. For that reason, backing the Bears will be the play.

Lotte Giants vs Samsung Lions – Over 8.5 runs (-112)

The total may very well be the better play here, seeing that both starters have managed to give up a few runs this season. Especially in both their most recent starts, where they each allowed 4 earned runs. Despite a poor record, the Lions are the 2nd best scoring team in the KBO, averaging 4.3 runs per game. They are also the 3rd-worst defensive team in the league, allowing 4.3 runs per game. The Giants are 4th in total offense, averaging 4.1 runs per game, so they should be able to have some success here as well. With both starters coming off poor starts, backing the over will be the play.
