KBO picks and predictions

Sunday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

KT Wiz vs Lotte Giants – Over 8.0 runs (-110)

The total may be the better play here because of how inconsistent both pitchers have been this season. Despaigne has some overall good numbers, but just 2 starts ago he allowed 8 earned runs to a terrible Hanwha Eagles’ offense. Despaigne has allowed at least 4 runs in 5 of his starts this season as well. His defense did not help him on a number of occasions, but he is still prone to give up runs in bunches.

On the other side, In-Bok has allowed 4 runs or more in 4 of his 12 appearances and 3 runs or more in 8 of his 12 appearances. While he may not get rocked, he will likely give up enough runs to keep the over in play. Neither bullpen has been consistent this season as well, therefore backing the over will be the play.

NC Dinos ML (-135) vs Samsung Lions

The NC Dinos won their 4th game in a row on Saturday morning when they beat the Samsung Lions by a score of 4-1. It does not chance the fact that they are still just 23-36-2 on the season and are in 9th place. However, they have won 7 of their last 10 games. Come Sunday morning, the Dinos will start Drew Rucinski, who will likely give them a great chance to make it 5 wins in a row. Rucinski is 5-4 on the season and has an ERA of 1.90. In 12 starts this season, he has allowed 17 earned runs over 80.2 innings.

With the loss on Saturday, the Lions are now 28-31 on the season and have lost 3 games in a row. Because of their losing streak, they are now 7th place in the league standings. They will counter with David Buchanan, who is 5-3 on the season and has an ERA of 2.42. In 12 starts this season, he has allowed 21 earned over 78.0 innings.

This is shaping up to be an elite pitching matchup, however Rucinski has still just been that much better than his counterpart. That and the fact that the Dinos have won 5 games in a row makes them worth a play on Sunday morning.

Doosan Bears ML (-135) vs LG Twins

The Doosan Bears edged out the LG Twins on Saturday, beating them by a score of 5-4. The Bears are now 28-29-1 on the season and are up to 5th place in the league standings. They will start Robert Stock on Sunday morning, who is 6-3 on the season and has an ERA of 2.70. In 12 starts this season, he has allowed 22 earned runs over 73.1 innings.

With the loss on Saturday, the Twins are now 33-26-1 on the season. The Twins are still in 3rd place, but have not been able to gain much ground on the teams above them. They will counter with Lim Jun-Hyeung, who is 1-3 on the season and has an ERA of 5.46. In 8 appearances (4 starts) this season, he has allowed 17 earned runs over 28.0 innings.

Jun-Hyeung has been inconsistent for most of the season, especially since becoming a starter. Because Stock has had plenty of shut down performances, backing the Bears will be the play.

Extra KBO picks and predictions for Sunday, June 12

Hanwha Eagles vs SSG Landers ML

Both starting pitchers have high ERAs, but it is misleading because Jeon Young-Jun for the SSG Landers has just 1 relief appearance. Nam Ji-Min is 1-6 for the Eagles, so backing the SSG Landers is worth a play.

Kiwoom Heroes ML (+125) vs Kia Tigers

The starting pitchers are about even in this matchup, both posting ERAs of 4.40 or higher. Jeong Chan-Heon has been in better form for the Heroes though, therefore backing them to win will be the play.
