KBO picks and predictions

Sunday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

Lotte Giants ML (-210) vs Hanwha Eagles

The Lotte Giants won their 2nd consecutive game on Saturday, beating the Hanwha Eagles by a score of 8-5. The win moves them to 20-15-1 on the season and up into a tie for 3rd place. The Giants will be scheduled to start Park Se-Woong, who is 5-0 on the season and he has an ERA of 1.21. In 7 starts this season, Se-Woong has allowed 6 earned runs over 44.2 innings.

With the loss on Saturday, the Eagles have now lost 9 games in a row. They might be tied with the NC Dinos for 9th place based on record, but it is fair to say that the Eagles are actually the worst team in the KBO. They will counter with Jang Min-Je on Sunday, who is 0-1 on the season and has an ERA of 3.18. In 10 appearances this season (4 starts), Min-Je has allowed 8 earned runs over 22.2 innings.

The Eagles have far too many issues right now to think they can upset the Giants on Sunday. On top of that, Se-Woong has been nearly unhittable. For that reason, backing the Giants will be the play.

NC Dinos vs SSG Landers ML (-156)

The SSG Landers got back into the win column on Saturday to snap what had been a 3-game losing streak. They are now 25-11-1 on the season and continue to hold 1st place in the standings. The SSG Landers will have a great opportunity to close the week out with a win, seeing that they will be starting Lee Tae-Yang. He is 3-0 on the season and has an ERA of 1.95. In 9 appearances (3 starts), Tae-Yang has allowed 6 earned runs over 27.2 innings.

With the loss on Saturday, the NC Dinos are now 11-26 on the season and are tied for 9th place. They will counter with Kim Si-Hoon, who is 1-1 on the season and has an ERA of 3.60. In 12 appearances (3 starts), Si-Hoon has allowed 10 earned runs over 25.0 innings.

It is true that neither starting pitcher has had much starting experience this season, but Tae-Yang has been far more dominant overall. For that reason, backing the SSG Landers will be the play.

Doosan Bears vs Samsung Lions – Under 7.5 runs (-104)

The total looks to be a much stronger play on Sunday because of the quality starting pitching both teams are planning to start. Albert Suarez has only allowed more than 2 earned runs once this season and that was a game where he still only allowed 3 earned runs. It was also his shortest start this season as he lasted just 2.0 innings. Similarly, Choi Won-Joon has also allowed more than 2 earned runs just once this season, but this was a start where he allowed 3 earned runs over 6.0 innings. As seen on Saturday, the Bears’ offense can be inconsistent. Facing a guy like Suarez will be difficult and they may only be able to score a few runs. Same goes for the Lions, therefore backing the under will be the play.
