KBO picks and predictions

Sunday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

Doosan Bears vs SSG Landers – Under 7.5 runs (-106)

The under looks to be the much stronger play because of the elite pitching matchup we will have in this game. The SSG Landers do have the top scoring offense in terms of total runs, and they are averaging 4.52 runs per game. The Bears on the other hand, are 7th in total runs, averaging 3.75 runs per game. However, the starters have been too strong this season to suggest either side is going to have much success at the plate on Sunday. They each may score a handful of runs, but look for this to be pitchers’ duel and back the under with a decent amount of confidence.

Samsung Lions vs Kia Tigers – Under 7.5 runs (-128)

Given the pitching matchup set for this game on Sunday, the under looks to be the better play. David Buchanan is one of the lone starters for Samsung who has been solid every time he steps on the mound. Same goes for the Tigers with Yang Hyeon-Jong and neither pitcher has allowed more than 3 earned runs in a game this season. It is worth noting that the Lions are 2nd in the league in total runs, averaging 4.2 runs per game. The Tigers are 4th in the league in total runs, averaging 4.29 runs per game. Despite the run scoring ability for both sides, it is more likely both starters are going to put in a solid start as they have all season. For that reason, backing the under will be the play.

Hanwha Eagles vs NC Dinos ML (-186)

Even though the Hanwha Eagles have been quite bad this season, it was not that surprising that they beat the NC Dinos on Saturday by a score of 2-0. The Eagles are now 9-16 on the season and are 9th in the KBO standings. They will start Park Yoon-Chul on Sunday, who is 0-1 on the season and has an ERA of 2.76. In 4 starts this season, Yoon-Chul has allowed 5 earned runs in 16.1 innings. While his numbers are solid, his lack of innings per start could be a slight concern. Yoon-Chul has not pitched past the 5th inning in any of his starts, something that the Dinos could take advantage of.

With the loss on Saturday, the NC Dinos drop to 8-17 on the season and are sitting in last place in the league standings. Sunday will be a great opportunity to get out of last place, considering they will start Drew Rucinski. He is 2-2 on the season, but has an ERA of 1.13. In 5 starts this season, Rucinski has allowed 4 earned runs in 32.0 innings. Up until his most recent start, Rucinski had allowed just 1 earned run in 27.0 innings, but even allowing 3 runs to the Doosan Bears is not a terrible start.

Both of these teams have clearly had their struggles this season and both starters might be one of the only bright spots going forward. The Dinos do have the clear edge in starting pitching, so backing them to win will be the play.
