KBO picks and predictions

Thursday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

Hanwha Eagles vs Doosan Bears – Over 9.5 runs (-102)

The total should be considered the strong play here because both starters have had their fair share of struggles this season. Lee Young-Ha is coming off a game where he allowed 6 runs (5 earned) over just 5.0 innings of work. He has allowed 3 or more runs in 6 of his 11 starts and on several occasions, his defense has not been made plays behind him. It is not like the Eagles are a juggernaut offensively, but seeing that they just scored 5 runs on Wednesday, we should still expect them to scrape across at least a few on Thursday as well.

On the other side, Moon Dong-Ju does not have many innings this season, but in the innings he has pitched he has given up several runs. The Bears are one of the teams who had the most success him, as Dong-Ju allowed 4 earned runs over 2.0 innings against them. After a poor offensive showing on Wednesday, this a perfect bounce-back game for Doosan — who, as mentioned, has had success against Dong-Ju before. For that reason, backing the over will be the play.

LG Twins ML (-126) vs Kia Tigers

The LG Twins won on Wednesday, beating the Kia Tigers by a score of 11-7. The Twins are now 32-24-1 on the season and are 3rd place in the league standings. They will start Lee Min-Ho on Thursday morning, who is 5-2 and has an ERA of 4.18. In 10 starts he has allowed 22 earned runs over 47.1 innings.

With the loss on Wednesday, the Tigers are now 30-25-1 on the season. They have lost 3 games in a row and are in 4th place in the league standings. They will counter with Im Gi-Yeong, who is 0-3 and has an ERA of 4.24. In 7 starts he has allowed 19 earned runs over 40.1 innings.

This pitching matchup is by no means great, but the Tigers are not playing well right now. Also, Min-Ho has had success against the Tigers, while the opposite is true for Gi-Yeong against the Twins. For that reason, backing the Twins will be the play.

Samsung Lions vs Lotte Giants – Under 8.5 runs (-118)

The total looks to be a better play here because despite both starters having high ERAs, they have both been serviceable at times this season. This particularly applies to Glenn Sparkman, who has allowed more than 3 earned runs in a start just twice. He also has 1 start against the Lions, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) over 5.0 innings.

On the other side, Heo Yun-Dong does not have enough starts yet to just assume he is going to be rocked here. Both of his starts were against the Doosan Bears. In 1 of these starts he allowed 2 earned runs and in the other he allowed 4 earned runs. On top of that, the Giants have the worst offense is terms of total runs scored and while the Lions are 4th in the same category, Sparkman has looked good enough recently to believe he can limit them here on Thursday. For that reason, backing the under will be the play.

Extra KBO picks and predictions for Thursday, June 9

KT Wiz vs Kiwoom Heroes ML (-138)

The Kiwoom Heroes blew a late lead to the KT Wiz on Wednesday, but are in a great spot to bounce back on Thursday with Tyler Eppler on the mound. He has a 1.59 ERA against the KT Wiz this season, while Benjamin Wes will make his 2022 debut for the KT Wiz. For that reason, backing the Heroes will be the play.

SSG Landers ML (-130) vs NC Dinos

The SSG Landers and NC Dinos tied on Wednesday, a win looks more likely for them on Thursday. The SSG Landers will start Kim Keon-Woo, while the NC Dinos will start Lee Jae-Hak. Jae-Hak is 0-6 this year, which is reason enough to fade him.
