KBO picks and predictions

Tuesday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

Hanwha Eagles ML (+136) over Samsung Lions

The Hanwha Eagles ended last week with a 3-1 loss to the KT Wiz. The Eagles are now 26-61-1 on the season and have lost 2 games in a row. They are in last place by a wide margin at this point, so even though there is still basically half a season to play, any chance at making the playoffs is slim. The Eagles will start Jang Min-Je, who is 3-4 on the season and has an ERA of 3.86. In 20 appearances (14 starts), he has allowed 30 earned runs over 70.0 innings.

After nearly 2 weeks of consecutive losses, the Samsung Lions finally won a game on Sunday by beating the Kiwoom Heroes 8-0. They are now 36-52 and remain in 8th place after such a long losing streak. Baek Jung-Hyun is starting and will try to make it 2 wins in a row. However, he is 0-10 and has an ERA of 6.63. In 14 starts, Jung-Hyun has allowed 54 earned runs over 73.1 innings.

The Lions may have finally snapped their losing streak and they may be playing a team that is even worse than them by record, but this is another terrible spot for them. Jung-Hyun has been inconsistent all year long and simply put the Lions do not win when he starts. For that reason, backing the Eagles will be the play for Tuesday.

LG Twins ML (-162) over SSG Landers

The LG Twins ended last week with a 6-1 loss to the NC Dinos. They are now 53-33-1 and remain in 3rd place in the league standings. The Twins will start Adam Plutko, who is 9-4 and has an ERA of 2.94. In 18 starts he has allowed 35 earned runs over 107.0 innings.

The SSG Landers ended their week with a win, beating the Doosan Bears 5-4. They are now 59-26-3, have now won 8 games in a row and remain in first place in the league standings. They will counter with Oh Won-Seok, who is 5-4 in 2022 and has an ERA of 4.01. In 17 starts he has allowed 41 earned runs over 92.0 innings.

The SSG Landers are clearly the best team in the KBO right now but find themselves in a tough spot-on Tuesday. The Twins have a much more consistent pitcher in Plutko, therefore backing them to win will be the play.

Doosan Bears ML (-154) over Lotte Giants

The Lotte Giants had one of the worst performances of the season on Sunday, losing to the Kia Tigers by an actual score of 23-0. They are now 38-47-3 and are in 6th place in the league standings. The Giants will start Kim Jin-Uk, who is 2-4 thus year and has an ERA of 5.36. In 11 starts he has allowed 27 earned runs over 45.1 innings.

The Doosan Bears also lost on their game on Sunday, falling to the SSG Landers 5-4. They are now 36-48-2 on the year and are in 7th place in the league standings. The Bears will counter with Choi Won-Joon, who is 5-7 and has an ERA of 3.51. In 17 starts he has allowed 37 earned runs over 95.0 innings.

It may be a new week, but the Giants loss this past Sunday cannot be completely overlooked. Their bullpen was terrible on Sunday, allowing 17 of the 23 runs for starters and for Tuesday’s game they will not have a good starter, either, which means the bullpen will may have to come in early again. For that reason, backing the Bears will be the play.

Bonus KBO picks and predictions for Tuesday, July 26

NC Dinos vs Kia Tigers – Over 8.5 runs (-124)

After winning 23-0 on Sunday, the Kia Tigers have to have confidence coming into this game. However, they will be starting Im Gi-Yeong, who has an ERA of 4.10 and an ERA of 8.68 against the NC Dinos. The NC Dinos will start Shin Min-Hyeok, who has an ERA of of 4.40 and an ERA of 15.75 against the Kia Tigers. Because both starters have performed poorly against each other, backing the over looks to be worth a play.

Kiwoom Heroes ML (+112) over KT Wiz

The Kiwoom Heroes suffered a shutout loss on Sunday, but will look to bounce back on Tuesday with Han Hyun-Hee on the mound. He has an ERA of 4.22, but has still been slightly better than KT Wiz starter, Odrisamer Despaigne. For that reason, backing the Heroes will be the play.
