KBO picks and predictions

Tuesday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

LG Twins vs Kia Tigers – Over 8.5 runs (-108)

The total could be seen as the better play here because while both starters have had their fair share of success this season, they have also given up their fair share of runs, being earned or unearned. Plutko has 3 starts where he has allowed at least 4 earned runs, but he also has allowed at least 3 runs in 8 of his 11 starts overall. While he is not getting hammered, he is allowing enough runs to keep the over in play, especially against a Tigers’ offense that ranks 1st in total runs this season.

Williams on the other hand, has allowed at least 3 runs in 4 of his 7 starts, a couple of times due to a lack of defense behind him. The Twins have the 2nd best offense in terms of total runs this season, so even though both starters have serviceable ERA’s, backing the over should still be considered the play in what should be a high scoring game between 2 of the better offenses in the league.

SSG Landers vs NC Dinos – Under 7.5 runs (-148)

If there was ever a game to not expect runs in, this would have to be it. Never mind the fact that the SSG Landers are in 1st place, while the NC Dinos are in last place, both starters have just been that good. Drew Rucinski has allowed 3 earned runs or less in 9 of his 11 starts and 8 of his 9 starts saw him allow 2 earned runs or less. Rucinski also has 2 starts against the SSG Landers this season, allowing 2 earned runs over 14.2 innings.

On the other side, Kim Kwang-Hyun has allowed more than 2 earned runs in a start just once and has 8 starts where he has allowed 1 earned run or less. In his 1 start against the Dinos, he allowed 1 earned run over 7.0 innings, so a weak offense like the Dinos have, should not be a cause for concern. Both starters have been far too strong this season to expect a game where either offense has any success, therefore hacking the under will be the play.

Samsung Lions ML (-182) over Lotte Giants

The Lotte Giants had their game canceled on Sunday with the NC Dinos, so they are still 24-28-2 on the season, and are 8th place in the league standings. Hoping to help them start their week with a win will be Lee In-Bok, who is 4-6 on the season and has an ERA of 4.33. In 11 appearances this season (9 starts), he has allowed 26 earned runs over 54.0 innings.

The Samsung Lions also had their game canceled on Sunday as they were scheduled to play the Doosan Bears. The Lions are 26-28 on the season and are 5th place in the league standings. The Lions will counter with David Buchanan, who is 5-3 on the season and has an ERA of 2.25. In 11 starts this season, he has allowed 18 earned over 72.0 innings.

While both teams are under .500 for the season, the Lions have the clear advantage on the mound. With this advantage, backing the Lions to start their week with a win will be the play.
