KBO picks and predictions

Tuesday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

Kia Tigers vs Samsung Lions – Over 8.5 runs (-130)

The total should be considered the better play here because of the offenses involved. The Tigers are 1st in total runs this season, while the Lions are 4th in the same category. Tigers’ starter, Han Seung-Hyuk has struggled in each of his last 2 starts, allowing 8 runs (7 earned) over his last 7.2 innings. Lions’ starter, Hwang Dong-Jae has allowed 3 runs in each of his last 2 starts, so the Tigers should be able to do their part for this total and at least plate several runs on Tuesday morning. The later innings should produce runs on both sides as well, as neither bullpen has been lights out by any means. For that reason, backing the over will be the play.

Lotte Giants ML (-205) vs SSG Landers

The Lotte Giants won their game this past Sunday, beating the Doosan Bears by a score of 5-4. The Giants are now 22-20-1 on the season and are up to 6th place in the league standings. They will open the new week with Charlie Barnes on the mound, who is 6-0 on the season and has an ERA of 2.04. In 10 starts this season, he has allowed 14 earned runs over 61.2 innings.

The SSG Landers also ended their week with a win, beating the LG Twins on Sunday by a score of 3-1. They are now 29-13-2 on the season and now hold 1st place in the standings by 4.0 games. The SSG Landers will counter with Oh Won-Seok, who is 3-3 on the season and has an ERA of 4.36. In 8 starts this season, he has allowed 21 earned runs over 43.1 innings.

As good as the SSG Landers have been this season, this is a tough spot for them. Their starter has not been consistent enough, especially when going up against Barnes. For that reason, backing the Giants will be the play.

Doosan Bears ML (-210) vs Hanwha Eagles

The Hanwha Eagles managed to get a win this past Sunday, beating the Kiwoom Heroes by a score of 6-5. Even with this win, the Eagles are still only 14-30 on the season. They are tied for 9th in the league standings, but their struggles will look to continue on Tuesday. The Eagles will start Kim Min-Woo in this game, who is 2-5 on the season with an ERA of 7.17. In 9 starts this season, he has allowed 34 earned runs over 42.2 innings.

The Doosan Bears lost their game on Sunday to the Lotte Giants by a score of 5-4. The Bears are now 21-20-1 on the season and have slipped into 7th place in the standings. The Bears will counter with Gwak Been. He is 1-4 on the season, but his ERA is 2.82. In 7 starts this season, Been has allowed 12 earned runs over 38.1 innings.

The Eagles are faced with a much tougher task on Tuesday compared to what they saw on Sunday. The Bears’ starter has been consistent all season, so backing the Bears to open the week with a win will be the play.
