KBO picks and predictions

Wednesday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

LG Twins vs Kia Tigers – Over 8.5 runs (-130)

The total could be seen as the better play here because while both starters have had their fair share of success this season, they have also given up their fair share of runs, being earned or unearned. Adam Plutko has 3 starts in which he has allowed at least 4 earned runs, but he also has allowed at least 3 runs in 8 of his 11 starts overall. While he is not getting hammered, he is allowing enough runs to keep the over in play, especially against a Tigers’ offense that ranks 1st in total runs this season.

Ronnie Williams on the other hand, has allowed at least 3 runs in 4 of his 7 starts, a couple of times due to a lack of defense behind him. The Twins have the 2nd best offense in terms of total runs, so even though both starters have serviceable ERA’s, backing the over should still be considered the play in what should be a high scoring game between 2 of the better offenses in the league.

KT Wiz vs Kiwoom Heroes – Under 7.5 runs (-138)

The total stayed well under on Tuesday and the same should likely be expected here on Wednesday with 2 of the better starters on these teams. Eric Jokisch has allowed more than 3 earned runs in a game just twice in 2022, but in 9 of his 11 starts, he has allowed 3 earned runs or less. He also has 1 start against the KT Wiz this year, a game where he did not allow a run over 8.0 innings.

So Hyeong-Jun, on the other hand, has allowed at least 4 earned runs in 3 of his 10 starts, but in his other 7 starts, he allowed 2 earned runs or less. In his only start against the Heroes he allowed 3 runs (2 earned), but since then he has allowed just 1 earned run in his 3 most recent starts. Neither offense was able to do much on Tuesday and now with 2 solid pitchers on the mound, expect their struggles to continue and look for another low scoring game. For that reason, backing the under will be the play.

Samsung Lions vs Lotte Giants ML (-134)

The Samsung Lions battled back on Tuesday to beat the Lotte Giants 7-4 in a game that needed 11 innings. The Lions are now 27-28 on the season and are sitting in 5th place in the league standings. On Wednesday they will start Albert Suarez, who is 1-4 on the season and has an ERA of 2.64. In 11 starts, Suarez has allowed 19 earned runs over 64.2 innings.

With the loss on Tuesday, the Giants are now 24-29-2 this year. They are currently 8th place in the league standings, but will have their ace on the mound on Wednesday with Charlie Barnes. He is 6-3 and has an ERA of 2.46. In 13 starts, Barnes has allowed 23 earned runs over 84.0 innings.

While the pitching matchup is evenly matched, the Lions do a poor job of winning games when Suarez starts. For that reason, backing Barnes and the Giants will be the play.
