KBO picks and predictions

Friday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

SSG Landers vs Hanwha Eagles +1.5 (+100)

The Hanwha Eagles managed to get another win on Thursday morning, beating this SSG Landers team by a score of 4-3. As per usual, the Eagles are so far in the cellar that a win here or there is not really going to help their standing at all. Though they look to have a chance here as they will be starting Nam Ji-Min on Friday. He does not have a decision this season, but his ERA is respectable at 3.38.

This loss for the SSG Landers did hurt them because they are within reach of a playoff spot. Games against the last place team are ones they need to take advantage of, but they just were not able to on Thursday. It will not get easier on Friday either, as they will be starting Sam Gaviglio. He has been inconsistent all season, shown by his 3-4 record, but more importantly, his 6.56 ERA.

The Eagles do have the clear advantage on the mound here, but are still a massive underdog. Laying a big price with Gaviglio is not worth the risk, but a Hanwha outright win might not be advised either. For that reason, backing the Eagles with a head start on the run line looks to be the way to go.

Lotte Giants vs Doosan Bears -1.5 (+100)

The Lotte Giants won on Thursday, beating the Doosan Bears by a score of 7-2. The win keeps them in 8th place; however, they trail the final playoff spot by only 1.5 games. They will look to make it back-to-back wins when they start Seo Jun-Woo on Friday morning. Though he has not been good at all this season, posting a record of 1-2 with an ERA of 7.38.

The loss for the Bears did not hurt them too much, as they sit hold 4th place. Catching 3rd place is going to be a struggle, as they trail the LG Twins by 5.5 games, but are 1.5 games clear of the Kiwoom Heroes for 5th. They will start Choi Won-Joon, who has a record of 11-2 on the season with an ERA of 2.84.

The Bears may have lost on Thursday, but their starter gives them a clear advantage on Friday. Their money line price is a bit too high here though, so backing the Bears on the run line looks to be the better play.

LG Twins -1.5 (-120) vs Kia Tigers

The LG Twins got a nice win on Thursday, beating this Tigers team by a score of 8-1. They currently sit in 3rd place, trailing 1st place by 3.5 games. They also trail 2nd place by half game, so a win here is important. The Twins will start Casey Kelly on Friday, who has been one of their more consistent starting pitchers. He is 12-6 on the season and has a respectable ERA of 2.97.

With a loss, the Kia Tigers sit in 9th place, but are now in danger of dropping to last place. Avoiding last is pretty much all they have left to play for as they are 10.5 games outside of the final playoff spot. The Tigers will start Daniel Mengden, who has certainly been less consistent than his counterpart. He is 5-3 on the season and has an ERA of 4.32.

The Twins’ offense showed up on Thursday and against Mengden, they should do the same. Their money line is a bit too high here, so backing the Twins on the run line will be the top play.

For those of you looking for bigger payouts, play the best bets as a 3-team parlay–which pays out at +633.
