KBO picks and predictions

Friday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

Samsung Lions vs Kia Tigers (+145)

Getting this much plus-money with the Tigers here has value. The Lions will start Choi Chae-heung here, who has been awful this season. He enters with a 5.81 ERA in 13 starts, so I don’t get how any one could lay this significant of juice with him on the mound at the moment.

His WHIP is 1.67, and he’s given up at least six hits in 10 of his past 11 starts. Now is the time to sell-high on Samsun following a few recent wins. Right before this three-game winning streak, they had lost three of four.

Doosan Bears vs SSG Landers (+100)

I also love getting SSG at even money. For starters the Landers will start Wilmer Font here, who has quietly been really solid in his first year in the KBO. Through 19 starts, he has a WHIP of just 1.05. He’s coming off a start where he gave up only one run and two hits across six innings.

Font pitched once against the Bears earlier this season, and he was dominant. He went eight innings in that one, only giving up a single run in a game that SSG won 4-1. The Landers scored 10 runs on Thursday, so clearly they’ve got hot bats right now. Choi Joo-hwan had two home runs in that one.

Walker Locket will start for Doosan, and he’s given up 16 earned runs over his last four starts. Perhaps not surprisingly, the Bears lost all four of those games. There’s no reason for Doosan to be a favorite here.
