KBO picks and predictions

Thursday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

Hanwha Eagles vs Samsung Lions – Under 8.5 runs (-104)

The total has to be the better play here because of the fact that both starters have been excellent. Nick Kingham may play for the worst team in the league, but that has not stopped him from having a career season. He also has a great track record against the Lions this season, posting a record of 2-1 with an ERA of 2.57. This is over the span of 3 starts, where he has allowed 4 runs in 14.0 innings.

David Buchanan has been lights out against the Eagles and a similar performance should be expected here. He is 3-0 against the Eagles and has an ERA of 1.88. This is over the span of 4 starts, where he has allowed 6 runs over 28.2 innings.

Because both pitchers have had plenty of success against their opponents, backing the under will be the top play here.

Doosan Bears vs LG Twins – Over 8.5 runs (-126)

Even though Walker Lockett has been solid overall this season, he has had some struggles when facing the Twins. He has an 0-2 record against them with an ERA of 4.63. This is still only 2 starts, but he has allowed 6 runs over 11.2 innings.

Lee Woo-Chan has very few appearances against the Bears, but still struggled in his limited time against them. He has not recorded a decision when facing the Bears, but has an ERA of 5.40. To be fair, this is over just 2 relief appearances, but he allowed 2 runs in just 3.1 innings.

The Bears were able to get their offense rolling on Wednesday and even though Woo-Chan has barely faced them, expect some runs to be scored. Same goes with Lockett, therefore, backing the over will be the play here.

SSG Landers vs NC Dinos – Over 9.5 runs (-108)

The total looks to be the better play because even though Drew Rucinski has been a solid pitcher, his track record against the SSG Landers is not good. In 3 starts against the Landers, Rucinski has allowed 11 runs in 16.0 innings. This gives him an ERA of 6.19 against the Landers. While this is not the biggest sample size, it looks to be enough to expect Rucinski to struggle.

Lee Tae-Yang had been excellent against the Dinos, but his last start against them was a disaster. He has allowed 7 runs against them in 14.1 innings. In 2 starts against the Dinos, Tae-Young has allowed 6 runs over 12.0 innings.

Because Rucinski has been bad against the Landers, and Tae-Yang was just recently hit hard by the Dinos, expect both guys to struggle keeping runs off the scoreboard and back the over as the top play.
