KBO picks and predictions

Wednesday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

LG Twins vs Kiwoom Heroes – Over 8.5 (-108)

The total looks like the better play here given the struggles these pitchers had last season. The Twins have already scored a total of 20 runs so far this season, an average of 6.67 runs per game. They have only allowed 6 runs, an average of 2 runs per game, but Ju-Young may not be the guy that can keep the Heroes in check.

The Heroes may have lost 2 of their first 3 games, but have scored 10 runs in 3 games, an average of 3.33 runs per game, while they have allowed 18 runs, an average of 6 runs per game.

The poor track record of both starting pitchers makes the over an interesting play. Until one or both of these guys shows improvement, backing the over when they are on the mound will be the play.

Hanwha Eagles vs Kia Tigers ML (-160)

The Kia Tigers picked up their first win against the Hanwha Eagles on Tuesday morning and will be looking for similar success on Wednesday morning. They will start Lee Eui-Lee, who is coming off of a solid 2021 season. He was 4-5 last season, but had an ERA of 3.61. Against the Eagles, he was 2-0, allowing just 1 earned run in 11.0 innings. His ERA against the Eagles was 0.81, so he will be looking to continue his dominance against them to start the new year.

The Eagles had a poor 2021 season, and nothing has changed as they have started the 2022 season 0-3. They will counter with Ryan Carpenter, who had a decent 2021 despite his team’s horrid record. Carpenter went 5-12 in 2021, but had an ERA of 3.97. Against the Tigers, he was 0-1 in 4 starts, and allowed 13 runs (10 earned). His ERA against the Tigers was 4.03.

Given the pitching mismatch, this is a great opportunity for the Tigers to get back to .500 on the season. Even though it is barely a week into the new year, these are games that need to be won. For that reason, backing the Tigers will be the play.

SSG Landers vs KT Wiz ML (-142)

The SSG Landers won on Tuesday morning by a score of 8-5 to remain unbeaten to start the year. On Wednesday, they will start Oh Won-Seok, who did not have a great 2021 at all. Last season, he was 7-6, but his ERA was 5.89. He had just 1 appearance against the KT Wiz, where he was decent, allowing 2 earned runs over 6.0 innings.

The KT Wiz have started the season 1-2 and will look to get back to .500 by starting Ko Young-Pyo on Wednesday morning. He had very solid 2021, posting a record of 11-6 with an ERA of 2.92. Against the SSG Landers he was 2-0 in 4 starts and 1 relief appearance, allowing 5 earned runs in 31.0 innings pitched. That calculates to an ERA of 1.45.

The KT Wiz have not gotten off to the start they probably wanted, but with what looks to be their ace set to pitch, this is a spot where they have the advantage. For that reason, backing the KT Wiz will be the play.

For those of you looking for bigger payouts, play the best bets as a three-team parlay–which pays out at +433.
