Let’s break down each of these plays.
MLB pick today: Cincinnati Reds ML over Pittsburgh Pirates (+130), 6:35 pm ET
The Pirates snapped an 8-game losing streak on Saturday, but followed it up with an 8-3 loss on Sunday. With that loss, the Pirates are now 7-16 in September and 5-17 in their last 22 games at home. The Pirates had a clean and rather comfortable 4-game sweep of the Reds in their last meeting. But since then, Pittsburgh is 1-9 with a -29 run differential and Cincinnati is 4-7 with a -13 run differential. Those Reds numbers are nothing to brag about but they are much better than the Pirates have been able to muster, therefore backing the Reds will be the play.

MLB pick today: Atlanta Braves ML over Washington Nationals (-250), 7:05 pm ET
The Nationals have been the worst team in baseball throughout the season. That makes this an opportunity that the Braves cannot let go by without capitalizing. It was meant to be rookie sensation Spencer Strider on the mound for them today, but he was placed on the injured list over the weekend. That puts Bryce Elder back on the hill. He’s a rookie the Braves have worked into the rotation recently, including his last start against the Nationals. He gave up just 1 run and 4 hits and now his lineup will be facing a young starter, as well.
Washington’s Cory Abbot has been going back and forth from the bullpen, and his most recent outing was a start against the Braves. That was a multi-run loss, which leaves Abbott still winless on the year. With Atlanta still just 1.5 games back from the Mets, expect a full-throttle effort on Monday night.

MLB pick today: Baltimore Orioles ML vs Boston Red Sox (+110), 7:10 pm ET
The starting pitching matchup favors the Orioles, as they will start Jordan Lyles against Boston’s Connor Seabold. Seabold has just 4 starts and 16.1 innings in the big leagues and he has yet to find it in the majors. He has allowed 7 earned runs in 2 of his 4 starts and has more earned runs than innings pitched thus far. Lyles is coming off his best start of the season in which he pitched a complete game with 1 earned run. He is far from consistent but if he brings even half of his stuff from his prior effort, it should be enough to stymie this struggling Red Sox team.

NFL pick today: New York Giants ML over Dallas Cowboys, 8:15 pm ET
This could prove to be a difficult game for the Giants because of how excellent the Cowboys have been defensively. While Dallas’ offense is limited with Cooper Rush at quarterback, this team still has one of the best pass-rushes in football.
If it’s another low-scoring game, I have confidence that the Giants’ new defensive coordinator Wink Martindale will be able to dial up enough exotic pressures to limit the effectiveness of Rush. It should be a 1-score game, but this number is too good to pass up for New York.
