Dallas Mavericks ML (-102)

Even the word “desperation” doesn’t accurately describe the situation the Dallas Mavericks are in right now. With just 5 games left they are a half-game out of the play-in tournament; it would be a disaster if a team like this didn’t make the postseason. The good news for the Mavs is they are playing a Miami Heat team that’s also struggling a bit. Miami has dropped 3 games in a row, but unlike Dallas it is relatively safe in terms of making its play-in tournament — so losing tonight’s game won’t be such a huge deal. Dallas won the first meeting of the season fairly easily and has had the Heat’s number in recent meetings, going 4-1 SU/ATS in the last 5 games. There is also news that Bam Adebayo might not even play tonight, which would open up the lane for the likes of Kyrie Irving and company to post solid offensive numbers. This is basically the last opportunity for Dallas to stay in the race for the postseason and I think we will see it step up. Back the road team to get the victory.

Luka Doncic Over 7.5 assists (-118)

I feel like Doncic not having enough trust and confidence in his teammates is the main reason why the Mavericks are currently outside of the play-in tournament in the West. We all thought getting Irving would solve some of those issues, but instead it has shortened the rotation for Dallas and Doncic appears to have to do a lot more scoring wise than before the blockbuster trade. That needs to change as soon as possible if Dallas wants to make the postseason, and Doncic is aware of that. His assists numbers have been solid lately; he has cleared this line in 5 of his last 6 outings while averaging exactly 8 dimes per game in his last 10. This game against Miami will probably be low scoring, as we have 2 of the 3 slowest paced teams in the NBA going at it. As such, I don’t expect Doncic to deliver another 40-point performance. Instead, he can resort to getting his teammates involved — which should give the Mavs a much better chance of getting a result. Losing tonight is not an option and I think Doncic rises to the occasion.

Tyler Herro to score 20+ points (-135)

Herro has been a consistent offensive option for the Heat all year long, and this recent slump is definitely not on him. He is averaging almost 21 points per game in his last 10, while clearing the 20-point line in 3 of his last 4. With the news of Adebayo potentially missing tonight’s game, the Heat could once again rely on Herro for a decent chunk of their scoring. He has been lethal from 3-point range, as well, averaging 3.2 makes per game in his last 10 games while shooting a respectable 39.5%. That should bode well against a Dallas team that us allowing 39.8% of 3s made in its last 3 outings. We just saw the 76ers shoot 47.2% from distance against the Mavericks a couple of days ago. Herro has stepped up with 19 and 25 points in 2 of his last 4 against the Mavs; look for him to reach 20 again in this one.
