LA Lakers ML over LA Clippers (+144)

Another chapter of this L.A. rivalry will be added on Tuesday. The Lakers won’t have Hachimura at their disposal since the trade just happened, but they may not need him. After all, LeBron James is in dominating form right now. The 38-year-old averaged 31.2 ppg in December and now he is pouring in 33.8 ppg in January. He has led the Lakers to back-to-back victories over Memphis (122-21 at home) and Portland (121-112 on the road). They trailed the Trail Blazers by 25 points at halftime before storming back on Sunday. That gives LeBron and company a ton of momentum heading into this showdown, so don’t be surprised if an upset is in the cards.

LeBron James to record 8+ rebounds (-150)

Everyone has been talking about LeBron’s scoring as of late, and they should be as he’s averaging over 32 points in his last 8 games. But, what about his rebounding? I’d argue that’s been impressive as well, but it goes under the radar since it’s not as flashy as other stats. James is averaging 9.4 boards per game in his last 8, while clearing this line in 9 of his last 10 games. Only once in the month of January so far did he fail to collect 8 boards and that was in a home game against the Atlanta Hawks, where he had 7 of them.

In the 2 games against the Clippers earlier this season, he grabbed 10 and 8 boards. Those two games mean that he’s been able to grab at least 8 boards in 13 of 14 games against this team. I’m expecting a fast-paced game here, so we can count on LeBron being more active on the glass.

Paul George under 2.5 made threes (-113)

George’s three-point numbers have been on a steady decline as of late which tells me he isn’t feeling confident in his shot right now. And you can’t really blame him. He’s shooting just 33.3% on threes over his last 4 games and he’s also failed to score 3 threes in a game since January 3. The hamstring injury has left a mark on him as he’s scoring an average of just 13.3 points per game during that stretch.

PG13 has faced the Lakers twice this season and is shooting just 28.6% from three-point land in those games. If we expand our search to his last 5 games against his cross-town rivals, George has scored 3 threes in just one of those games back in 2021. Of his last 21 attempts from distance he’s connected on just 4 of them against the Lakers. Add to that the Lakers’ stellar defense of the perimeter in their last 3 games where they’ve allowed just 33.3% of shots made, I’m very optimistic he won’t get it going tonight from long range.
