NFL DFS Monday Night Football showdown lineup advice: Saints vs Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett (16) and wide receiver DK Metcalf (14) return to the locker room following a 37-27 victory against the San Francisco 49ers at CenturyLink Field.

When it comes to playing Monday Night Football DFS showdown slates, it doesn’t matter if it’s a good game or a bad one. There is money to be made regardless of the teams, the sloppiness of play or even the final score. That shines brightest tonight as the New Orleans Saints face the Seattle Seahawks in a rain-soaked battle between two of the slowest offenses in the NFL.

That’s right, both of these teams play at a snail’s pace which limits the number of plays run and, typically, how much scoring you see. The fact that it’s been raining in Seattle for the past 36 hours isn’t helping. But again, it doesn’t matter how much scoring there is, just so long as you roster the guys who actually do the scoring.

With that in mind, here’s a look at the plays we like for Monday Night Football.

Captain/MVP

Alvin Kamara, RB, Saints

He’s the top offensive weapon for the Saints and he is typically the focal point of their game plan. He’s seen the lion’s share of carries and if Week 5’s eight targets are indicative of what’s to come, he’s a no-brainer. Seattle ranks 16th against the run and ranks 28th in DVOA against running back pass plays.

DK Metcalf, WR, Seahawks

While there is rain in the forecast, you can expect the Seahawks to pass the ball a fair amount, given the strength of the Saints run defense. Metcalf is the go-to guy for Geno Smith and has talent and speed that transcend match-ups. If the Seahawks are going to move the ball downfield, they need to put it in Metcalf’s hands.

Jameis Winston, QB, Saints

With seven touchdowns and only one interception over his last three games, it appears that Sean Payton’s plan to limit the number of throws he makes each game is working. You’re not going to see a whole lot of yardage from him (his highest total was 279 in Week 5), but you will see some touchdowns. If he opts to dump off more to Kamara, he’ll only increase the chances of padding his own stats.

Other Picks

Alex Collins, RB, Seahawks

After putting in a full practice Saturday, the Seahawks declared Collins good-to-go for Monday night’s game. He is expected to see his full workload, though, obviously, it’s not the greatest of match-ups. However, don’t dismiss him just because he’s facing the Saints. The slick field could be beneficial for him as he knows what direction he’s cutting and running to. The defenders will have to adjust on the fly and the wet surface could turn into a slip-n-slide.

Geno Smith, QB, Seahawks

Well, the Seahawks aren’t just going to run the ball all night, are they? Smith was incredibly efficient last week and while he only threw for 209 yards and one touchdown, he had a 71.9-percent completion rate. He’s a work in progress, so perhaps he and his receiving corps spent some extra time working together this week.

Marquez Callaway, WR, Saints

After two weeks of trash to open the season, Callaway has looked much more like a Saints’ No. 1 receiver in two of the last three weeks. He found the end zone twice last week and if the rain doesn’t bother him or Winston too much, they can put together a nice effort against a soft Seattle secondary.

Saints D/ST

They’re the No. 2 ranked defense in the NFL overall and they rank fifth in takeaways this season. A rainy night and wet surface always lead to turnovers, so if the Saints are their usual opportunistic selves, they could bring you some points tonight.

Kenny Stills, WR, Saints

With Deonte Harris out, Stills steps in as the Saints’ No. 2 receiver in a soft match-up against a Seattle secondary that has allowed the sixth-most passing yards per game and has allowed 10 touchdowns through the air. Stills is normally a deep threat, so if the weather doesn’t play too much of a factor, you can expect Winston to take some downfield shots.

Dart Throw

Rashaad Penny, RB, Seahawks

There’s a good chance Penny actually slots in as the No. 2 behind Collins tonight if the Seahawks officially add him to the roster. He’s been activated off IR and there isn’t a whole lot of faith in the back-up corps. With Collins banged-up and the field wet, if Penny is the No. 2, he could offer great value.
