I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. Hockey fans got to enjoy a new and exciting format beginning with the All-Star Draft on Thursday night, which also featured some celebrity guests. Then, we had the All-Star Skills Competition last night, which included eight total events. Now, it all culminates in today’s All-Star Tournament, so we’ve provided the last of our NHL All-Star Weekend predictions for you below.

Along with our best NHL All-Star Weekend predictions, be sure to check out all of our NHL analysis for the remainder of the season.

2024 NHL All-Star Tournament Winner: Team Matthews (+250 at FanDuel)

For any fan who wasn’t able to watch the All-Star Draft live, it was a great show, and highlighted by a few key factors. Two of which were how certain teams effectively became normal NHL squads. Auston Matthews instantly grabbed his teammates, forming a pseudo-Toronto Maple Leafs team.

With NHL All-Star Weekend taking place in Toronto, that will be loved by fans. Similarly, the Hughes brothers – Jack and Quinn – created a team with 5 Vancouver Canucks. With the Leafs and Canucks 2 of the best teams in the NHL, it’s no surprise that we see them as the favorites to win it all. However, those two teams play one another in the first round. So, before we dive into why Team Matthews can win it all, we’d suggest taking over 11.5 goals (-115 at FanDuel) for that first-round matchup.

High-scoring games should be expected from Team Matthews, and not just because he’s on the team. His teammates – William Nylander and Mitch Marner – also generate some of the best offensive chances in the league. While we already know that about Toronto, the difference here is the goaltending. That is what the Leafs have lacked for several years, but thanks to the fantasy draft, they now have two of the world’s best netminders. Igor Shesterkin won the Vezina Trophy two seasons ago and Jake Oettinger has led the Dallas Stars to within one point of the top spot in the Central Division.

With all the pieces in place, our NHL All-Star Weekend predictions are focused on Team Matthews winning it all.
