The NHL must have realized that starting their only playoff game on a Sunday schedule at 10:00 pm ET was not great for viewership as Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals is an afternoon game at 3:00 pm ET on ABC. Game 1 went into overtime, which was the third game in 4 head-to-head matchups between the Stars and Golden Knights that went beyond regulation. Game 2 should be a great capper to a solid weekend of playoff hockey.

Dallas Stars ML over Vegas Golden Knights (+105)

The Stars hope that Game 2 will go the same way as each of the Game 2s that they have played in this postseason. They lost Game 1 to the Wild in overtime but won Game 2 7-3. They also lost Game 1 to the Kraken in overtime and then won Game 2 4-2. We have seen this movie with the Stars before in these playoffs and they are looking to go 3 for 3 in bounceback Game 2s.

Granted, this time the Stars are on the road. But in each series, they also lost the first road game and bounced back with a win in the second road game. The Golden Knights’ win on Friday was their first over the Stars in 4 games between the 2022-2023 regular season and postseason. All but one of those games went beyond regulation and Dallas has played well against Vegas with a slim margin of error. This is not too big of a moment for them to bounce back.

Over 5.5 goals (-115)

In addition to Game 1 being the first Vegas win over Dallas this year, it was also the first over between these teams as their regular-season games both comfortably went under the total. But in the playoffs, the game totals have been even higher than in the regular season and Game 1 of this series was no exception. The recent trends seem set to overcome the regular-season trend between these teams.

With Friday’s 4-3 final, the over has now hit in 8 of the Golden Knights’ 12 games in this postseason. The total has also gone over in 7 of the Stars’ last 8 games, as well as in 9 of their last 11 on the road, dating back to their final couple of road games of the regular season. In both cases, the goalscoring of the Stars and Golden Knights has outweighed their goal prevention which has led to the high totals.

Joe Pavelski over 0.5 goals (+180)

Joe Pavelski did not score in Game 1, but he was not quiet. He had 2 primary assists, which gives him 12 points in 9 games in the playoffs. Despite missing 5 games this postseason due to a head injury, Pavelski has the 2nd-most goals on the Stars and the 3rd-most points. He has 72 goals and 137 points in 177 career playoff games. This postseason, Pavelski has validated his pedigree by continuing to produce when it matters most.

Pavelski scored in 3 of the final 4 games against the Kraken, which helped to pad his 1.33 points per game pace. Pavelski is on the Stars’ top line with Jason Robertson and Roope Hintz, as well as on the top power play with Robertson, Hintz, Jamie Benn and Miro Heiskanen, so the opportunities to score should be there. Pedigree and recent performance make this +180 number a great value for Pavelski to score.
