Anaheim Ducks vs Florida Panthers over 7 (+105)

High totals are a very common theme for both the Ducks and Panthers. The over has been prominent for Anaheim and Florida both overall this season and recently. The total has gone over in 12 of the Panthers’ last 14 games, and in 5 of their last 6 games at home. That contributes to an over under record of 34-21-4 on the season including 16-9-1 at home. They score the 7th most goals per game in the NHL, and allow the 25th most goals in the league. That combination of a goal scoring strength and goal prevention weakness has been the key driver behind high totals for the Panthers. Their high game total trends have yet to change all season.

These teams have met once this season in a game which the Panthers won 5-3, comfortably hitting the game’s over. The Panthers are still producing offensively and the Ducks are still allowing goals in bunches. If Monday’s matchup repeated their last head to head result, it would not be surprising. The Ducks rank last in the NHL in goals allowed per game at 4.16. They also have the league’s 3rd worst penalty kill, allow the most shots on goal per game in the NHL, and allow the most goals 5 on 5. The Ducks’ inability to contain their opponent is the primary reason the over has been so consistent during their season. There has been no indication that that will change any time soon. This matchup has all the makings of a high total.

Ottawa Senators +1.5 (+100) vs Boston Bruins

As great as the Bruins are this season, the Senators have been a thorn in their side. Of their 55 games this season, Boston has gone winless in just 13 of those games. They are the only team left in the NHL with single digit regulation losses with 8. Despite a historic point percentage, the Bruins are 0-1-1 against the Senators this season. Ottawa beat Boston in October by a score of 7-5, and in December by a score of 3-2 in a shootout. Those scores are a microcosm of the Senators’ season as there are games where they light it up, and games where they go quiet. They rarely hold strong opponents to 2 goals, but somehow they have shown that ability against the NHL’s best team this season. Whatever the reason, the Senators present a tough matchup for the Bruins.

If the Senators were in the Western Conference, they would be knocking on the door on the wildcard. They are a flawed, but good team. They enter Monday 7-1-1 in their last 9 games. In that stretch, they bested the Maple Leafs, Flames, and beat the Islanders twice. The Senators have a +14 goal differential over those 9 games with a +1.56 goal differential per gamer game in that span. None of this is to take away from how good the Bruins are. But the Senators are playing great hockey, and have proven multiple times that they are a tough matchup for the Bruins. This plus money for Ottawa to cover +1.5 is good value.

Seattle Kraken -1.5 (+170) vs San Jose Sharks

The Kraken have played great hockey lately at a time they really needed it. Seattle hit a 3-6-1 rut between mid-January and early-February that lost them some ground in the standings. They have since gone 3-0-1 in their last 4. Stringing together consecutive strong performances for points in 4 straight is a sign that things are pointing up for Seattle. They have won their last 2 games by a combined score of 10-4. In their lone matchup against the Sharks this season, the Kraken won 8-5. That 5-spot is tough to allow against an offensively-challenged Sharks team. But if they clean it up defensively and have another strong offensive performance, Seattle will take care of business again.

The Sharks have lost 3 straight games and have 1 win in their last 5. They also have 1 win in their last 7 games on the road. In 5 head to head matchups dating to last season, the Sharks have dropped 4 games with an average loss of 3.60-2.20. The Pacific division is a tight race with Seattle right in the thick of it. If the Kraken are going to make the playoffs, they have to collect 2 points against bad teams like the Sharks. The Kraken will come out to play looking to run up the score. Seattle ranks 4th in the NHL in goals scored per game which was reflected in their 8-5 win over San Jose earlier this season. If the Kraken hold to their averages, they will run up the score on the Sharks again.
