I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. It’s the first Sunday without the NFL, so the NHL takes center stage. The season is starting to heat up as teams are out to solidify their playoff positioning. After a huge Saturday of exciting action, we have another 6-game slate today. Not only that, but half the games are in the afternoon time slot. With the earlier start times, let’s dive into our 3 favorite plays of the day for an incredible payout.

Minnesota Wild -1.5 (+130) over Nashville Predators

The day gets started up in Minnesota with a Central Division rivalry. The Wild and Predators were both playoff teams last season and the Wild are 5 points ahead in the standings, with the Preds currently on the outside looking in at the playoff race. They were also just in action yesterday, so an early game a day later is doing them no favors.

Admittedly, they had a great performance against the Florida Panthers, but they’ve still been very inconsistent this season. That’s demonstrated by them being the bottom half of the division and the injury to Filip Forsberg certainly doesn’t help. He’s listed as day-to-day, but anything less than 100% is a blow to the Preds. Meanwhile, the Wild were off yesterday and are coming off an incredible win. It came against the Dallas Stars, who lead the Central Division. If they can handle that elite defensive squad, they can make it back-to-back home wins today.

Edmonton Oilers ML (+105) over Colorado Avalanche

Shortly after the Wild and Predators drop the puck, the same will happen up in Edmonton. This is a rematch of last year’s Western Conference Finals, which did not end well for the Oilers. However, they have an opportunity to get some revenge against a fatigued Avs team who were in action yesterday against the St. Louis Blues and now have to travel up to Canada. We’re expecting Connor McDavid and the Oilers to come out fired up after blowing a 3-0 start against the New York Rangers in their most recent game.

That’s never a good thing but putting up 4 goals in the 1st period against an elite goaltender in Igor Shesterkin still provides confidence. Edmonton is the highest-scoring team in the NHL and is the same since the start of 2023. They continue to get more consistent with Evander Kane back in the fold and Colorado won’t be in their top form being on a back-to-back. While we expect a back-and-forth game, look for McDavid to continue his quest for the first 150-point season in 27 years.

Winnipeg Jets ML (+110) over New Jersey Devils

Betting against the Devils this season hasn’t always been a fun time, but tonight presents value on another great team. The Jets have been flying under the radar but are in a similar position as New Jersey. They too are in 2nd place in their division and have dominating teams thanks to their elite goaltending. Connor Hellebuyck is looking for his 5th straight season of leading the NHL in saves made.

He’s 3rd in goals saved above expected and is the primary reason for the Jets allowing the 3rd-fewest goals per game. The Devils are elite defensively themselves, allowing the 5th-fewest goals per game. However, they were in action last night with starting goaltender Vitek Vanecek in net. They are the home team in this matchup, but they’ll be the ones traveling in after being on the road last night. Meanwhile, Winnipeg has been off since Thursday and the Jets have won 3 of their last 4 games. A win today puts them within 1 point of the division lead, and we envision them getting the job done.
