Best early bets for NCAAF Week 11

North Carolina +3.5 (-115) over Wake Forest

I backed North Carolina last week and should’ve been rewarded with a cover if not for a couple of empty red-zone possessions. Nevertheless, I’m back on the Tar Heels this week in what should be a great spot for their passing offense to shine. For starters, Wake Forest doesn’t play a lick of defense, certainly not in the secondary. The Demon Deacons allowed 3rd-string NC State quarterback MJ Morris to move the ball at will in their 30-21 loss to the Wolfpack last Saturday. Now they’ll have to face one of the nation’s best passing offenses, led by Tar Heels quarterback Drake Maye. In a game where defense could be optional, I like taking the points for the underdog here. Last team with the ball wins!

Louisville +8.5 (-110) over Clemson

The Clemson Tigers had been walking a tightrope all season long and they finally slipped against Notre Dame, The Fighting Irish ran the ball down Clemson’s throats all evening in a massive victory that changed the College Football Playoff landscape. Louisville’s defense isn’t nearly at the level of the Irish, but the Cardinals do have a strong running game and a mobile quarterback in Malik Cunningham that can give the Tigers’ defense trouble. Louisville has won 3 straight games convincingly since Cunningham’s return, which should give them confidence against a reeling Clemson team. I expect a one-possession game in this ACC tilt.

Florida State -6 (-110) over Syracuse

Since a crushing loss to Clemson a few weeks ago, Syracuse dropped contests to Notre Dame and Pittsburgh, and quarterback Garrett Shrader has also dealt with an injury that has hampered his performance. That doesn’t bode well against a Florida State team that is clicking on all cylinders on both sides of the ball following consecutive blowout wins. It starts and ends with Jordan Travis for the Seminoles.

Thankfully, Travis is playing some of the best football of his career, and I expect that to continue for the veteran quarterback against a beleaguered Syracuse defense. On the other side, Florida State’s defensive line continues to get pressure on opposing quarterbacks and I don’t expect the Orange offensive line to deter them here. Back the ‘Noles at this number.
