Week 2 of the college football season was positively wild. In fact, the 2022 campaign as a whole has been the same, and we aren’t even a month into it. The Sun Belt Conference is making moves, Nebraska has already fired head coach Scott Frost and there has already been a change atop the AP rankings.

With big shoes to fill, what will Week 3 do for an encore? The opening lines were released at most sportsbooks on Sunday, so let’s take a look at them and offer our first impressions.

Best early bets for NCAAF Week 3

Oklahoma -13.5 (-110) over Nebraska

Frost’s exit is probably addition by subtraction, but you can’t expect the Cornhuskers to turn things around right away — especially not when Oklahoma is next up on the schedule. Nebraska is terrible. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse than flying a third of the way around the world to get beat by Northwestern, the ‘Huskers lost at home to Georgia Southern. In this 4-team playoff era when style points can matter, don’t think for a second that the Sooners are going to take it easy on a former conference rival.

USC -12.5 (-115) over Fresno State

USC is going to have to do more than beat Rice and Stanford for me to entirely jump on the bandwagon, but early returns on the head coach Lincoln Riley era with Caleb Williams at quarterback are encouraging. Fresno State just gave up 35 points in a loss to Oregon State, so there is no reason to think it can contain Williams. Get the line now while it’s below the key numbers of 13 and 14.

Miami (FL) +6 (-110) vs Texas A&M

Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher can give all the pep talks he wants, but a home loss to Appalachian State is one from which you don’t easily recover. Unless the Aggies somehow win on the road at Alabama next month (year right!), for all intents and purposes their College Football Playoff hopes are over. The Hurricanes, who have blown out 2 unspectacular opponents, are more than capable of adding insult to injury.
