Good morning, Pickswise Nation. Welcome to another college football Saturday, and it’s an especially big one with intriguing matchups up and down the schedule. We also have all 4 division series in the MLB playoffs taking the stage, while the 2022 MLS playoffs are getting underway.

It’s a humongous day in the world of sports, so let’s get right to it and make your next bet better with Wise n’ Shine!

About Last Night

Pickswise NHL experts have a day
There were only 4 NHL games on Friday’s schedule, but to say that our experts made the most of them would be a gross understatement. We went 3-1 on money line picks, 3-1 on over/under picks, 2-0 on 3-star best bets, 2-0 on player props, cashed a +1115 mega parlay and hit a +560 standard parlay.

Dodgers, Braves pushed to the brink
Just about everyone may have been expecting another Dodgers-Braves NLCS, but both teams lost their respective Game 3s at San Diego and Philadelphia. Los Angeles fell 2-1 in Friday’s nightcap after Atlanta got blown out 9-1. Meanwhile, the Yankees dropped Game 2 to the Guardians 4-2 at home.

College football appetizer: Navy, FIU cover
Saturday is always college football’s main course, but there were a pair of appetizers on Friday night. Even though both underdogs lost straight up, we cashed each of them against the spread. Navy (+12.5) lost at SMU 40-34 and FIU (+33) fell 30-10 at home to UTSA.

Best Bet of the Day

NCAAF: San Jose State Spartans -6 over Fresno State Bulldogs (-110)
10:45 pm ET, FS1

Fresno State has consistently proven itself to be a Mountain West power, but that hasn’t been the case this year. After quarterback Jake Haener went down with an injury in a loss to USC, the Bulldogs haven’t been the same team. Their last 2 contests resulted in losses to UConn and Boise State while managing to score a combined 34 points in the process. This offense looks hapless without Haener and it’s unlikely that the star quarterback will suit up this weekend. That could spell trouble against a red-hot San Jose State. The Spartans are one of the more underrated teams in the Group of 5 this season and it all starts with how they are absolutely demolishing teams in the trenches. It’s on the defensive side of the ball where San Jose State is strongest, as the Spartans have allowed only 29 points over their last 3 games while outscoring opponents by an 27 points.

Stat of the Day

Both Michigan State and Penn State are top 25 in the nation in time of possession, holding onto the ball for more than 32 minutes per game. They are both top 10 nationally in rushing defense, including the Nittany Lions at #5. As such, Under 52 looks like an enticing play.
