I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. Although we had a light 4-game slate on Friday night, we still hit our mega parlay at +1115 odds! Now we’ve got a 14-game Saturday and even have afternoon hockey to get things started early. Not only are we targeting that game, we’ve broken down 3 of our favorite plays for all of today’s action. We’re backing teams to cover the puck line so there should be lopsided victories by the end of the night.

Before we dive in, be sure to check out our NHL picks for today’s action.

Florida Panthers -1.5 (+130) over Buffalo Sabres

Let’s get things started with a team that came through for us in their season opener. The Panthers were able to handle the New York Islanders in a 2-goal victory on the road. They won’t have to travel far to take on the Sabres this afternoon and this game should end in similar fashion. Florida made one of the biggest offseason acquisitions with the addition of former Flame Matthew Tkachuk, and it immediately paid off.

Tkachuk scored a goal in his team debut while also looking solid on the defensive end of the ice. That’s where the Panthers needed to make the most improvement and it looked strong to start. They held the Islanders to just a single goal and goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky leads the NHL in goals saved above expected after the first week of games. He was 4th in the category last season and now has better defenders in front of him. Florida was even able to cover the puck line on Thursday night without Aleksander Barkov contributing, which is a rarity. Florida won all 4 meetings against Buffalo last season with 3 coming by multiple goals, so let’s start off our mega parlay with the high-flying cats.

Washington Capitals -1.5 (+100) over Montreal Canadiens

It’s safe to say that the Capitals and Canadiens got off to quite the opposite starts to their seasons. The Caps lost back-to-back games to the Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs, but get to head back home for this matchup. Despite the Habs upsetting the Leafs in their opener, they still aren’t that caliber of team.

The pricing of this game alone demonstrates that. The Caps are one of the biggest favorites on the board, which is also due to Montreal coming into this game having just played last night. Worse yet, both matchups are road games and goaltending isn’t exactly their strong suit. They didn’t upgrade from Jake Allen in the offseason, and Carey Price is still out. That means Alex Ovechkin should have a great night as he continues his quest to break the all-time goals scored record set by Wayne Gretzky. The caps handled the Habs by final scores of 6-3, 5-2 and 8-4 last season, so this is a perfect bounce-back spot for them.

Minnesota Wild -1.5 (+155) over Los Angeles Kings

This is a matchup that features 2 teams that need to bounce back in a big way. The Wild had their season and home opener on Thursday night and were embarrassed by the New York Rangers. While New York was 2 games away from the Stanley Cup Finals last year, it still should have been a close game.

However, the Kings have lost each of their first 2 games, both of which were at home. They lost in a heart-breaker to the Vegas Golden Knights with a last second goal, but their most recent loss was much more concerning. LA was smashed by the Seattle Kraken 4-1 in their home arena. Remember, the Kraken just became a franchise last season and were abysmal. The Kings also have former-Wild Kevin Fiala, making this a bit of a revenge game. Unfortunately he’s recorded 0 points and just 4 shots on goal so far this season. Meanwhile, Minnesota still has one of the league’s stars for years to come in Kirill Kaprizov who helped take down LA 6-3 when they faced the Kings at home last season.

Saturday’s NHL mega parlay (10/15)
