San Antonio Brahmas vs Houston Roughnecks prediction

The third week of the XFL season will wrap up with this nightcap on ESPN2 between the Houston Roughnecks and San Antonio Brahmas on Sunday. The Roughnecks are the toast of the league after dominant back-to-back wins, and oddsmakers have them as 4-point favorites as they look to keep it going this time out. San Antonio Brahmas vs Houston Roughnecks expert picks

We have 2 XFL picks for this weekend’s game between the San Antonio Brahmas and Houston Roughnecks

Brahmas vs Roughnecks point spread pick: Roughnecks -4 (-110)

Houston has won its first 2 games by a combined score of 56-26, and seems to be just about the only team in the league with a high offensive ceiling. In the Roughnecks’ first game they dominated Orlando so much that former NFL first-round pick Paxton Lynch got benched in his first start.

They followed that up last week with another dominant defensive performance as they held Renegades quarterback Drew Plitt to just 4.1 yards per attempt while sacking him 5 times. Houston quarterback Brandon Silvers is leading the league in yards per attempt, and the former Troy star is tied for the lead in touchdowns. The Roughnecks need to get a better ground game going, but other than that they’ve been just about as good as you could have asked for. The Brahmas are coming off a game in which they scored 30 points, but I think that number is a bit misleading. They passed for only 165 yards and averaged 2.5 yards per carry on the ground, so it’s not like they did anything particularly well.

Brahmas vs Roughnecks Over/Under totals pick: Over 36 (-110)

These appear to be the only teams in the league capable of scoring in bunches. San Antonio had a 30-point game last week, and Houston is averaging 28 through 2 games. Roughnecks quarterback Brandon Silvers is leading the league in many passing categories, and he’s got the most passes of 20+ yards, which shows there’s real upside.

Both the Roughnecks and Brahmas are terrible at running the ball, so expect each side to air it out. San Antonio quarterback Jack Coan is coming off arguably the best game of any XFL passer this season in which he averaged 6.9 yards per attempt and threw 3 touchdowns without a turnover, so a shootout seems highly likely.
