This should be a stylistic matchup that favors defense. Arguably the two best running backs in the entire NFL will be on the field in San Francisco's Christian McCaffrey and Atlanta's Bijan Robinson. Both teams will be eager to establish the run. However, each defense is outstanding in that department. The 49ers rank #7 against the run and also #7 in yards per carry allowed; the Falcons are #4 against the run and #6 in yards per carry allowed. That's not to say that McCaffrey and Robinson are going to be completely stymied, but both offenses will likely be made to work for their success. As such, my 49ers vs Falcons prediction is Under 49.5.
Atlanta is getting top cornerback A.J. Terrell back from a hamstring injury, which relegated him to injured reserve for four weeks. On the other side of the ball, the Birds are a bit banged up on the offensive line -- specifically LT Jake Matthews (even though he doesn't have an injury designation). Backup running back Brian Robinson Jr. is questionable. Meanwhile, do the 49ers have anyone other than TE George Kittle (and RB Christian McCaffrey) to catch the ball? Mike Evans is questionable, Deebo Samuel is out, and De'Zhaun Stribling, Demarcus Robinson and Ricky Pearsall are on injured reserve. Look for this game to stay under the total.
San Francisco 49ers vs Atlanta Falcons prediction: Under 49.5 (-105) available at time of publishing. Playable at that number.
