This budding Ravens-Bills rivalry in the Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen eras has been highly entertaining of late, unless you’re a Ravens fan. The Bills have won four of the last five since 2021, with three of the last four games being decided by three or fewer points – including last season’s 41-40 thriller. Speaking of Lamar Jackson, he was a full participant in practice Wednesday and Thursday, so the expectation is that he will play.
Despite the expectation that the Ravens will have their star quarterback back on the field, this is a tough spot for them. They’re off two consecutive divisional losses, which were on the heels of an overtime game in Atlanta, while they have a Thursday Night Football matchup with the Jaguars next week. The Bills are off a bye, fresh and ready to go – which was much needed after consecutive close calls on the West Coast against the Rams and Raiders.
The Ravens certainly have the edge defensively; the Bills have one of the worst defenses in the league. That said, the spot somewhat negates that slight edge. It’s not as if the Ravens are elite on that side of the ball – they’re 18th in EPA per play and 15th in success rate allowed per SumerSports, while they’re 20th in opposing red-zone touchdown rate and 18th in third-down conversion rate allowed.
The Bills have balanced their bad defense with elite offense, leading the league in EPA per play and sitting fourth in success rate. They’re also top-six on third downs and in the red zone and have a top-two efficiency mark both on the run and the pass. Simply put, the Bills can get it done in every way.
Jackson’s return will be a jolt to Baltimore’s offense. They’re about two yards better per play with him under center – Derrick Henry is much more effective when opposing defenses have to stay honest rather than stacking the box – but I also question how healthy Jackson really is. The Bills are healthier and well-rested ahead of this matchup, which has been beneficial for teams in 2026. In fact, teams with more rest than their opponent are 22-8-1 ATS this year (TrendsCenter). Bills win and cover at home.
