New England's Week 1 loss looked worse than the underlying performance actually was. A 13-10 defeat against a Super Bowl-caliber Seattle team is a competitive final score by any measure, and the Patriots' defense held up its end all evening, particularly on third down.
The offense is the piece that needs fixing, not the whole operation, and Mike Vrabel isn't shy about saying so. He opened his Week 2 press conference by taking blame for Week 1 and made it clear the coaching staff has already made corrections to protect Drake Maye better against exactly the kind of pressure that got him into trouble against Seattle.
That matters a lot against this specific opponent. Vrabel has spent the week warning his team about TJ Watt, and a head coach who is locked in on protecting the edges, is a real advantage against a Pittsburgh pass rush that lives on disruption rather than pure sack totals.
Losing AJ Brown is a genuine blow, but New England still has a receiving room with proven veteran experience to lean on, and Maye is talented enough to bounce back from a rough game against a defense that will be seeing him for the first time this season.
On the other side, Pittsburgh's offense isn't exactly humming either. Rodgers needed 40 attempts just to reach 221 yards in Week 1, and Jaylen Warren didn't get much going on the ground against Atlanta.
Home field at Gillette Stadium matters here too. New England is desperate to avoid an 0-2 start, and I expect a sharper, more disciplined performance from a talented roster that simply beat itself in Week 1. I like the Patriots to clean up the turnovers and cover at home.
