Ryan Gerard fared considerably better at Birkdale, finishing ninth on his Open debut, and a second PGA Tour win could be coming soon for one of the most improved players on the circuit this year. Gerard has 3 runner-up finishes to his name this year, including at the Memorial Tournament last month, and he struck the ball really well from tee to green when 41st at the Rocket Classic last year. A cold putter held him back generally last year, but he's jumped from 154th in 2025 to 32nd for strokes-gained putting this season, and now possesses one of the most well-rounded games on the PGA Tour.

Davis Thompson finished runner-up in the 2024 Rocket Classic and has relished the demands of Ross courses - he has finished in the top 12 of the last two Wyndhams and was ninth at the 2024 US Open on Ross's masterpiece, Pinehurst #2.
