Paris Saint-Germain had a slightly bumpy ride in the Club World Cup group stage but they have scope to improve and can advance to the quarterfinal with a high-scoring success over Inter Miami at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Reaching the knockout rounds is already a positive outcome for Inter Miami, who have grown into the tournament since a nervy 0-0 tie with Al Ahly in their opening game. Inter superstar Lionel Messi came to the party with the winning goal in a 2-1 triumph over Porto  and qualification was sealed with a 2-2 draw against Palmeiras. But the MLS team finished their 3rd game with a slight feeling of disappointment after conceding a couple of late goals and missing out on first place.

Inter could have been playing against Group B runners-up Botafogo rather than PSG and their sense of regret is likely to increase as they come to realise the scale of the task in front of them. PSG will be keen to get back to the standards set against Atletico Madrid when they registered a superb 4-0 victory. And the Champions League winners should have too much quality for Inter Miami, although a shutout may elude them against a team with world-class talent – Messi and Luis Suarez – at the top end of the pitch.
