TB Lightning Win(-160)

Game 7 between the Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning is here. After the Lightning survived a possible Game 6 elimination, they now get the benefit of returning home for this do-or-die game. Will Montreal’s added pressure get the best of them in this game, or can their youth and skill carry them to the next level? Here is our Canadiens vs. Lightning prediction for Game 7.

When comparing these teams, it is extremely evident Tampa Bay offers a wealth of experience and a ton of talent. Add that to their home-ice advantage, and I see a strong recipe for a win. Leading the way for Montreal is rookie goaltender Jakub Dobes. While he has been elite, we have yet to see how he can handle the bright lights of Game 7, especially in an away building. Montreal has had a nice and balanced attack with many players chipping in, but Tampa Bay is equipped with far more game-breakers that can take over at any moment. I am also expecting big things from some of the NHL’s best players overall in Nikita Kucherov and Brayden Point, who have combined for just 2 goals in the series. This will be yet another close game, and while Montreal has impressed, I don’t see them winning a head-to-head matchup that will feature everyone’s top efforts. For our Canadiens vs. Lightning prediction, take Tampa Bay to win and move on.

MIN Wild Win(+160)

The second-round in the NHL Playoffs introduces its second series, as the Colorado Avalanche host the Minnesota Wild. These Central Division teams have dominated all season long, and begin what should be an intense playoff series. To get you set for Game 1, here is our Wild vs. Avalanche prediction.

Colorado was able to take care of the Los Angeles Kings in 4 quick games in Round 1. While impressive, they have not hit the ice since April 26. This shouldn’t be completely detrimental to an elite and experienced team like Colorado, but it remains a question for me — how their legs will perform after an extended layoff? In Game 1, I am leaning on the team who is battle-ready and riding a major high in Minnesota, who just took down an elite rival in 6 games. Minnesota has impressed in their first-round, led by their elite core of Kirill Kaprizov, Matt Boldy, Quinn Hughes and Brock Faber, who combined for 13 goals and 32 points in a combined 24 games. Rookie goaltender Jesper Wallstedt was unbeatable, with a 2.05 goals against average and .924 save percentage. There’s enough here to be excited about a big plus-money price. For our Game 1 Wild vs. Avalanche prediction, I am siding with Minnesota to win and kick-off the second-round NHL drama.

Wild vs. Avalanche prediction: Minnesota Wild ML (+160) available at time of publishing. Playable to (+140).

Money Line 3-Way Pick
CAR Hurricanes Win(-140)

The Carolina Hurricanes will be looking to seize a commanding 2-0 lead in their Eastern Conference semifinal series against the visiting Philadelphia Flyers on Monday night. That Carolina easily took the opening game on Saturday was no surprise. One, the Flyers were coming off a tough 6-game series against Pittsburgh with only 2 days off in between (by comparison, Minnesota and Colorado will have three days off in between 2 of their games during the same series!). Two, the Hurricanes are both well rested and in dominant form. They have trailed for zero seconds through 5 playoff games, sweeping Ottawa before beating Philly 3-0 on Saturday. The ‘Canes enjoyed a full 6 days of rest after making quick work of the Senators while waiting for the Flyers and Penguins to wrap things up. Carolina had every advantage heading into Game 1; I don’t foresee anything different in advance of Game 2. As such, my Flyers vs Hurricanes pick is for the home team to get the job done in regulation.

‘Canes goalie Frederik Andersen was nothing special during the regular season, but he — and the defense in front of him — has been outstanding in the playoffs. Andersen has compiled a 0.90 goals-against average and .961 save percentage through 5 starts. The Dane has faced more than 25 shots only once — and that was when Game 2 of his team’s first-round series went to double-overtime and lasted more than 90 total minutes. Andersen was required to turn aside just 19 shots in his shutout of Philadelphia on Saturday. At the other end of the ice, Logan Stankoven is on an absolute heater for Carolina. The 23-year-old center has lit the lamp in every single playoff game so far, including twice at the Flyers’ expense in the series opener. Adding insult to injury for the visitors, forward Owen Tippett (28 goals, 23 assists) missed Game 1 with an undisclosed injury and remains day-to-day. Give me the home team to once again take care of business in regulation.

How Do I Get NHL Picks For Today’s Games?

NHL Picks are most similar to MLB Picks, in that the most popular NHL wagering is done via the Money line (ML) where a bettor simply picks a winner or loser of the game finding value in the price. Just like an MLB pitcher, NHL game lines are determined largely by the goaltender matchup. You’re going to pay a premium price (-180 or more) for putting in an NHL free pick on a solid goaltender – but it’s one position that can win or lose the bet for you. Fatigue is also a factor in finding the best NHL picks as Team A may be playing their first game in a week while Team B is in their 3rd contest in 5 nights.

We try to post our NHL picks for today at least 24 hours in advance. However, due to the huge volume of games, this can sometimes be impossible if teams are playing back-to-back games. We want to get our picks up as close as possible to the opening lines so we can get on the early line value, but team news and research is always key to making the best possible NHL Picks.

NHL Picks Against the Spread

NHL betting has a 1.5-goal spread known as the puck line (PL). Again just like baseball betting has the run line (-1.5). NHL wagers are exciting until the very last second of the game as teams often pull their goaltender near the end to get an extra skater on the ice. All of a sudden an empty-net goal pushes your NHL free pick to victory – or defeat. Betting on the puck line provides better payout odds and NHL picks against the spread can also be pushed to higher numbers such as -2.5 or 3.5 goals for an even better return on investment.

Free NHL Over / Under Picks

Most games are listed right around 5.5 goals in the NHL. The total number of goals is the total of combined goals by both teams and you can either select over or under the total. If the line is 5.5 and you wish to wager on the over then the total combined goals for the game must be 6 or more for you to cash your ticket.

NHL over/under betting is an interesting wager. A huge factor to take into consideration is the goaltenders as they have a huge part to play in influencing the number of goals in the game. A goaltender’s Goals Against Average (GAA) is a key stat to measure the effectiveness of a goaltender.

NHL Consensus Picks

NHL Consensus Picks is a way of saying the popular pick or often referred to as a public pick. What this actually means is where the majority of the bets are being placed. If we’re looking at Money Line markets, for example, if 70% of the tickets are on the Pittsburgh Penguins to beat the New York Islanders, then the Penguins are the consensus pick for that game. Bettors can use this in their research or check possible line moves in the lead-up to a game.

Ice Hockey Betting Picks

Our ice hockey betting picks will typically follow and feature on the NHL season with picks and Predictions available all season long. Our experts will be primed and ready in times of Olympic years and select other competitions throughout the year too. Hockey Computer Picks

With so many hockey games played each season, analytics, lineups, and small changes can make a huge difference in a matchup. These are just some of the reasons why bettors may opt to use or consider hockey computer picks, as a metric that can be rid of human bias, and offer a solely data-driven analytical look at a matchup, betting markets, and projections.
