Dayton vs Marquette Pickswise Expert Predictions

Point Spread Pick
Marquette -5.5(-110)

The Dayton Flyers will travel to Milwaukee on Wednesday night to play a non-conference game against the Marquette Golden Eagles. Marquette will look to defend their home floor after losing to Maryland at home in their last game. They were unable to stop Maryland’s offense, allowing them to score 89 points, but I expect the Golden Eagles to bounce back in this matchup. The spread is currently set for 5.5 points in favor of Marquette, and my best of this game is for them to cover that spread.

I like Marquette to cover the 5.5 points because Dayton has not looked good in their four games this year. The Flyers are 3-1 on the season but barely beat Bethune Cookman and UMBC. They beat UMBC by just six points and Bethune Cookman by nine, which gives me concerns that they can compete with Marquette. Marquette has two losses, but both of their losses came to Indiana and Maryland. They blew out lesser opponents in their three wins at home.

The Golden Eagles should win the rebounding battle in this matchup, and I believe that will ultimately be the difference. According to KenPom, Dayton’s ranked just #278 in offensive rebounding percentage and #180 in defensing rebounding percentage. The Flyers do not get many second chance points and that has hurt their offense. They are not a good three-point shooting team either as they are ranked #290 in three-point percentage, so I do see their offense being good enough to stay within the spread. Take Marquette to cover here.
