Providence vs Penn State Pickswise Expert Predictions

Game Totals Pick
Over 160.5(-110)

The Providence Friars and the Penn State Nittany Lions will travel to Connecticut for a non-conference game on Saturday. The game will be played on a neutral site in Mohegan Sun Arena for the Basketball Hall of Fame Showcase. The spread is currently set at Providence -4, and it should be one of the best games of the day. The game should be a close finish, but my best bet of the game is the over.

Over 160.5 points is the play here because both teams’ offenses have looked good to begin the season. Providence is averaging 96.4 points per game while Penn State is averaging 82 points per game. The Friars scored 98 points in their last game against New Hampshire and will look to stay hot in this one. According to KenPom, Penn State’s offense is ranked #24 nationally in effective field goal percentage, #35 in two-point percentage and top 100 in both adjusted offensive efficiency and three-point percentage. Providence’s defense is giving up 86 points per game and has not been good at guarding the three-point line.

I expect both teams to shoot the ball well from the field and score enough points to drive the total over. The total has gone over in all five of Providence’s games this season and I expect that trend to continue. They have struggled to stop opposing teams from scoring and like to play at one of the fastest paces in the country. The Friars are ranked #29 in adjusted tempo and #14 in average offensive possession length, which shoud result in more points. Take the over here.
