Virginia vs Butler Pickswise Expert Predictions

Point Spread Pick
Butler +7.0(-110)

The Virginia Cavaliers and the Butler Bulldogs will play on Sunday afternoon in West Virginia for a non-conference showdown. The game is a part of the Greenbrier Tip-Off that is played in White Sulphur Springs inside a hotel ballroom. Both Virginia and Butler won their first game on Friday and will look to leave West Virginia 2-0. It should be a great game between two evenly matched opponents, so I expect to Butler to cover the +7 spread.

The spread is currently set at seven points in favor of Virginia, but I believe Butler will keep this one close. The Bulldogs are currently 5-0 against the spread this season and are coming off a nice high major win against South Carolina. They out-rebounded South Carolina 48-29 and could be a force on the glass in this matchup too. According to KenPom, Butler’s offense is ranked #6 in offensive rebounding percentage and #25 in three-point percentage. Virginia’s defense is ranked just #117 in offensive rebounding percentage and #134 in three-point percentage. Butler’s ability to shoot the ball at a high level and get the rebound if they do miss should help them keep this game close.

Virginia has looked good this season and are undefeated, but their shooting might not be able to keep up with Butlers. The Cavaliers shot just 21 percent from deep and 38 percent from the field in their last game inside the Colonial Hall against Northwestern. They will need to shoot better in this one if they want to cover the spread, but I see Butler covering the number. Take Butler +7.

*Butler +7 available at time of publishing. Playable at +8*
