The Virginia Cavaliers and the Ohio State Buckeyes will meet in Nashville on Saturday evening in a non-conference showdown. We don’t usually see non-conference games played this late in the season, but this is 1 of 2 notable matchups between ACC and Big Ten teams this month. Duke and Illinois did this last year in Madison Square Garden and Duke will take on Michigan in this year’s edition next Saturday. This one should be a very intriguing neutral-site game, and I am backing Virginia to cover.

Ohio State is on the wrong side of the bubble and needs this win to get back on the right side, but I am still backing Virginia -4.5. The spread is too low for this Virginia team in my eyes since I expect it to dominate the offensive glass. According to KenPom, Virginia is ranked #3 nationally in offensive rebounding percentage; Ohio State is ranked just #197 in defensive rebounding. Ohio State’s offense has been efficient from 2-point range this season, but Virginia’s defense will likely be too much for the Buckeyes to handle. Virginia’s defense is ranked #7 in effective field-goal percentage, #13 in 3-point percentage and #11 in 2-point percentage. I believe Virginia is the better team here, so let’s back the Wahoos.
