Duke vs California Pickswise Expert Predictions
The Duke Blue Devils hit the road for the west coast, taking on the Cal Golden Bears in a third straight ACC game and a second consecutive road game. Duke went to Syracuse last week and cooled off the Orange 38-3 as a 4-point favorite, following up an emotional 45-33 win over NC State at Wallace Wade Stadium in the previous weekend. QB Darian Mensah and RB Nate Sheppard have really settled in nicely for the Blue Devils. Mensah threw for 268 yards and 2 scores last week, while Sheppard gobbled up 168 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Orange.
Cal started out OK, winning 3 in a row over Oregon State, Texas Southern and Minnesota, going for 27 or more points in each of the victories. It was blasted 34-0 at San Diego State on Sept. 20 as a 14-point favorite, but it was able to bounce back in a cross-country trip to Boston College — winning 28-24 as a 6.5-point underdog as the Under (54) cashed for the second straight weekend. Cal is 1-0 in the ACC and Duke is 2-0 in the league, so this is actually a pretty big game on the west coast. Duke’s defensive effort was surprising last week, as it had allowed 33 or more points in the 3 previous games. Expect Mensah and Cal QB Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele to put on a show on ACC After Dark.
