Florida Atlantic Owls vs Maryland Terrapins Prediction, Odds and Picks for Tomorrow, 08/30/25

The Florida Atlantic Owls of the American Conference head north to battle the Maryland Terrapins of the Big Ten Conference for Saturday’s season opener. The Owls play their first game of the Zach Kittley era, as the young, bright mind takes the reins after the Tom Herman era mercifully came to an end in Boca Raton. QB Caden Veltkamp, formally of Western Kentucky, is expected to lead the offense — with WR Easton Messer, also from WKU, coming in. That familiarity, despite a change of scenery, should get the offense off and running. Kittley’s offense should be very exciting, but can the defense stop anybody?

The Terps are expected to be among the worst teams in the Big Ten (plus 8!), battling Northwestern and Purdue to avoid the basement. Maryland was 1-8 in the conference, and almost the entire offense will be different. QB Malik Washington is back, but there is no guarantee he will be the full-time starter. It will probably take Maryland a while to jell, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see a high-octane, dangerous FAU offense give UMD all it can handle — as it is trying to make a statement in its coach’s debut.
