NC State vs Duke Pickswise Expert Predictions
The NC State Wolfpack make the short jaunt from Raleigh west on Interstate 40 to the Durham Expressway to take on the Duke Blue Devils in the ACC opener for the home side. Oddly enough, it’s already the third conference game for NC State, and that will make a difference. The Wolfpack opened the season with a gritty win over in-state rival East Carolina, and then it slid past Virginia 35-31 to cover a 3-point spread in a very entertaining game at Carter-Finley. The Pack then hit the road and vanquished the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 34-24 at their place, covering a 7-point number. In the two ACC games, the over has cashed both times, with NC State averaging 34.5 PPG and the defense coughing up 27.5 PPG.
For Duke, it pulled away from FCS Elon in the opener, but that’s all it has to show for three games. A top-10 ranked Illinois team came in and crushed the Blue Devils 45-19 on Sept. 6, and QB Darian Mensah, who left Tulane for Duke, had an emotional homecoming to New Orleans last Saturday. He was also on the short end of a 34-27 loss to the Green Wave, dropping Duke to 0-3 ATS. More importantly, the over is 3-0 for Duke, too, as it has allowed 39.5 PPG in two games against FBS opponents. SGP players will want NC State on the moneyline and the Over, but the better standalone play is to go high on the total, and go aggressively.
NC State vs Duke prediction: Over 57 (-110) at time of publishing. Playable to 59.
