New Mexico vs Michigan Pickswise Expert Predictions
The New Mexico Lobos kick off the Jason Eck era at The Big House, as he moves from the Big Sky Conference to the FBS level. He led Idaho to some playoff success in recent seasons, and now he looks to build a winning culture in The ABQ. Former Idaho QB Jack Layne followed Eck from the Vandals to the Lobos, and a slew of other Big Sky guys transferred into UNM to help out, too. On defense, New Mexico could be surprisingly stout against the run, but the secondary is a big question mark, and that’s where Michigan true freshman QB Bryce Underwood could start earning his money right away.
The Lobos should be a lot stiffer against the run this season, but that won’t be evident in this one. RB Justice Haynes, formerly of Alabama, should hit the ground running, literally. Expect a huge performance in the run game, with plenty of highlight-reel long TD runs. Underwood will also get his, though, too. Michigan will be looking to make a statement after another offseason where off-field headlines dominated those on the field. Look for Michigan to do most of the heavy lifting to get this game across the finish line for an Over, but don’t be surprised to see UNM get to double digits.
New Mexico vs Michigan prediction: Over 49 (-110) at time of publishing. Playable to 50.5.
