San Diego State Aztecs vs Washington State Cougars Prediction, Odds and Picks for Saturday, 09/06/25

The San Diego Aztecs return 7 of their 9 all-Mountain West performers from a 2024 season that ended with 6 consecutive losses. The grass is looking greener for the Aztecs after bringing in Michigan transfer Jayden Denegal. Despite losing production out of the backfield, the ground game looked like a well oiled machine in the season opener and faces a Washington State unit that ranked 96th in rushing defense in 2024 and just gave up 188 yards on the ground against FCS Idaho. 

The Washington State rushing game on the other hand looked putrid to begin the year, but new head coach Jimmy Rogers has brought over a coaching staff and several athletes that contributed to a 3,500-yard rushing season at South Dakota State; I have faith the Cougars will be able to move the rock going forward. Sophomore QB Jaxon Potter looked efficient in the season opener despite the Cougars’ struggles to finish drives. With that being said, this Aztecs squad ranked 119 in red zone defense a year ago and 110th in turnovers forced; Washington State should be able to find the end zone more efficiently this time around. I’ll take the over.
