UTEP Miners vs Kennesaw State Owls Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 10/28/25

The Conference USA race is really heating up, as Kennesaw State and Jacksonville State are tied atop the conference at 3-0 while Western Kentucky lurks behind at 4-1. The Owls of Kennesaw hope to push their conference record to 4-0 on Tuesday when they host the UTEP Miners, who finally earned their first FBS win of the season ahead of their bye week last week. The Miners beat the 0-7 Sam Houston State BearKats 35-17 in that one, surpassing 400 total yards of offense while averaging 5.1 yards per carry and 9.1 yards per pass.

Unlike UTEP, Kennesaw did not have a bye last week. Instead, the Owls earned a convincing win at FIU 45-26. Every phase of the Kennesaw offense was working, as the Owls averaged 5.2 yards per carry and a whopping 16.7 yards per pass. It was the 4th straight win for the Owls, whose only blemishes were their 2 games at Wake Forest and Indiana – the former of which was just a 1-point loss.

For as good as Kennesaw has been, I struggle to find reasons to back this team as a double-digit favorite. In fact, this is the biggest number the Owls have laid against an FBS opponent since joining the FBS ranks. While they covered as a 3-point favorite last week, they were a bit fortunate to cover as a 7-point favorite in an 8-point win over Middle Tennessee, and they failed to cover as a 17-point favorite over FCS Merrimack. They were not favored at any point last year, in what ended up being a 2-10 SU and 5-7 ATS season.

Despite a 2-5 SU record, UTEP’s defense has been surprisingly sound. The Miners have yet to allow anyone to surpass 31 points, which includes holding Texas to 27 and Utah State to 28. On the season as a whole, they are 3rd nationally in third-down conversion rate allowed and 27th in yards per play allowed. More recently, the Miners are 9th in PPA per play allowed and 42nd in points allowed per quality drive since Week 5. They’re also much better than FIU against the run and on standard downs, which is where Kennesaw dominated last week. Give me the points in this one.
