Diamondbacks vs Reds Pickswise Expert Predictions
In this game, we will see the Arizona Diamondbacks against the Cincinnati Reds for the first time this year. The Diamondbacks come into this one on a 4-game win streak after scoring 7 runs in the ninth inning yesterday. The Reds are trending in the opposite direction as they have lost 4 of the last 5 games. Looking at tonight, the D-Backs will start Eduardo Rodriguez. Rodriguez is coming off a shoulder injury that put him on the injury list. Prior to his injury, he had given up 13 runs through 12 innings in May. These struggles were persistent for Rodriguez all year as he has only pitched 2 games where he gave up less than 3 runs. It will be interesting to see if he is able to turn it around following his stint on the IL. One positive for him and the Diamondbacks is that the Reds are batting .188 over the past 6 games and have only scored 16 runs. These hitting woes have become a common concern for the Reds. I am not sure a rested and recovered Rodriguez is good news for the Reds.
On the other side, Nick Lodolo is taking the mound for Cincinnati. Last month, he had a 4.01 ERA giving up 15 runs in 33.2 innings. While these numbers aren’t bad, the Reds are 1-5 in his last 6 starts. The downward trend of the Reds is not a good sign when going up against a Diamondbacks team that has scored 38 runs and is batting .266 over the past 6 games. Additionally, the Diamondbacks are averaging 5.2 runs per game in away games this year. I believe that if the Diamondbacks can hit this average, the Reds will struggle to keep the game close. While I am not obsessed with the pitching of Arizona, I trust Rodriguez more than I can trust Cincy’s hitting. I’m taking the D-Backs to win this first game.
